Not long ago I purchased an ultrasonic cleaner for cleaning some small items I have. I haven’t used it on a razor yet but I bet it will work fine. I wish I had it years ago when I was collecting a lot of vintage razors. It could have saved me a lot of cleaning time. Has anyone tried one of these on a razor? Seems if they are safe for jewelry they should be OK for plated razors.

I think it's a great idea since you have it anyway. When I was in acquisition mode I just used a super detergent and boiling water, and hours to soak. Many times I never even had to use the toothbrush on the razor. I used Planisol-M for the detergent. It doesn't take very much to do the job. It might even work in the sonic bath. www.greenpowerchemical.com/Links/Planisol-M

I use soapy hot water or even barbacide. Last step is to polish the plating. I did a video on this using flitz.

I have an attachment on mine that allows me to suspend the razor with the handle out of the solution. I am very happy to have my ultrasonic cleaner.

Maybe my ultrasonic cleaner is not powerful enough, but I find it has limited use for actually cleaning a really dirty razor. There is no substitute for elbow grease and Peek or Autosol, an old toothbrush, pipe cleaners and small wire brushes for really bad cases and other stuff. BUT: When I'm done with the elbow grease, nothing beats an ultrasonic cleaner to get all the cleaning stuff residue out of all the nooks and crannies and knurled handles. Also, for razors that have been cleaned and merely have accumulated some soap residue, the ultrasonic deals with that promptly.
