Are the Gem 1912 and the EverReady 1912 the same razor?

And the Star 1912, and the Radio 1912, and the 1933 and later GEM junior. There are minor changes through the years, and the British ones, but they are all essentially the same razor.

Yup...even the squant head and regular head shave the same. Long handle short handle...however you dice it they are all 1912s.

I found the ER 1912 Efficient, slightly aggressive and lots of blade feel. Nothing to serious, but not a mild razor by any means.

I wanted to know what to expect. Yup. I would say its aggressive. It had a big blade gap and you could really feel that single edge on the skin. A razor to be respected for sure. But nothing to be afraid of. Just have to be careful. I cut myself about 3 spots today. But now that I know the razor, I don't think there will be any trouble in the future.

I like all the 1912 types. However, I do prefer the later models as they seem to have smaller "Ears" than the early ones. Makes it easier to get into tight places.

Not a whole lot that hasn't already been said . But I'll add my 2 cents worth. I think some folks misunderstand the terms agression and efficiency... To me, efficient means being able to use long strokes to.take off the beard vs agression meaning more blade gap and more blade exposure. I, for one, like a razor with more blade gap, and blade feel. Nothing to be scared of, just as with any other razor, angle and pressure.

Must be using too steep of an angle, put the cap on or very close to the face and use a good blade, and shaves will be smooth and easy. The 1912 is one of those "everyman" razors, from noobs to old scrooges, blood loss only comes from pilot error.

That was my first shave with it, so pilot error could very well be the cause.
