Thur 8th May Simpson Chubby 1 /Maggards 2Band Williams Mug Soap PAA Starling V2 - OC plate Gem S/S [ 6 ] Williams Aqua Velva A/S lotion My first outing with the Starling and the OC plate. I find it to be quite harsh yet efficient during initial clearance stages compared with most Vintage SEs. Fitted with a heavier handle I find it is possible to use it with a light touch to do the polishing up work needed to get a good close all round finish. I find that keeping up a thick lather at all times helps the Razor does help the Shave go better, I prefer the OC to the Straight Bar.

5/7/19 Evening Shave MM Clog Pruf GEM Blue Star blade, new Vulfix # 1 Boar Brush Taylors “Mr. Taylors Shaving Cream” CVS Witch Hazel Stewarts Root Beer I had ordered some Blue Stars online and I have to say I wasn’t really happy with them. I used to use them a lot a couple of years ago and they seemed a lot smoother and sharper back then. We’ll see how the next shave goes. I also got some Treets in that I will try next. They have been my favorite SE carbon blade. Hopefully they are just as good as the last time I used them. For quite some time my soap/cream inventory had dwindled down to just Williams. I held off buying anything until I went to the BSS, figuring I’d get some samples to try. Well, for the last few days I have been using up the artisan soap samples I picked got there. Now folks, they were nice and performed well but at this point I think I’ll stick to the old stuff. Now, there’s nothing wrong with that artisan soaps and creams, it’s all wonderful stuff. I just prefer the scents and performance of all the old staples. There are a couple of artisan brands that were recommended to me that I will try when I get around to it, but in the meantime its back to basics for me. I guess no new tricks for this old dog. Anyway I went to Rubinov’s to get some Palmolive but they were out so I got some Taylors. It’s kind of heavy for summer but it will do till I round of some cooler Palmolive. Oh yeah, I almost forgot. I didn’t splash the root beer on my face; it was drunk down after the rinse. Sometimes going back to the basics is good. I am going on a week basis. I use the same gear for 7 days. That helps take human error out of the equation, ateast for me. I like artisan soaps, maybe I got into the shaving game late, but the Staples to me, seem to be almost regaled to a higher status than they should be. Are Williams, Palmolive, Arko, etc good, yes they are, but for a bit more I can get the same performance and get a scent I like. Just my opinion though. YMMV Good point. For me, the scent during the shave is nice but not mandatory. I shoot for performance of the soap. Its the scent after the shave which is my reward.

Second outing with the Eagle. Performed very well with 2 days growth. This is a nice razor and the vintage Williams always shines in my book!

May 9th -- Self-Honed Wedge (Shave #2) The razor is a 1904ish GEM Lather Catcher on a jayaruh handle with a GEM Wedge. The wedge makes the razor very head heavy, so the length and shape of the handle really increases comfort and maneuverability when shaving. Also present were Proraso cream (sensitive skin formula), a Yaqi 24mm Mew brown synth, and a US-Made PAL Injecto-Matic standing by to bat clean-up. As the title suggests, this was a self-honed wedge with invaluable guidance from twhite -- without which I would've never have even tried this undertaking. The net net of the blade's performance is that it's getting closer to where it needs to be, but it's not there yet. I'll be putting more detail in the wedge hone thread later for those interested in following the journey. Suffice to say, the blade cuts, and while the shave is not uncomfortable (no irritation, no blood, no weepers), it just isn't a very close shave. The result after 2 passes was more like that of 1 to 1.5 passes of a modern blade, and so the 3rd and final pass was done by the PAL -- the final result was a darn fine shave. I'm going to keep working on my honing skills, and I'm hopeful that one day my blades will be able to go the distance.

I may have to file this little comment away for the cartel ....of course, they've probably already learned of it. Just know that if they have, it wasn't from me....I know that snitches get stitches

Schick E3 razor Personna blade Vie-Long Silver Tip brush Taconic Eucalyptus Mint SC Osage Rub/Witch Hazel w/aloe Taconic Eucalyptus Mint A/S
I used to have a lot of trouble with the E3, always got a nick/cut when using it. Since I've figured it out and got the technique down, great shaves every time. My face is BBS and very happy. Now go enjoy your day folks.

Thur 9th May RazoRock Syn. 22mm De Vergulde Hand Alu. General + S/S Handle Schick Proline [ 2 ] Jaguar Prestige A/S Lotion After yesterdays quite harsh shave with a Starling that of today seemed ultra smooth. I had almost forgotten just how good this propriety Dutch soap is, it certainly helped assist provision of an enjoyable Shave, with a great close all round finish.

A great looking although torture shave. I shave every day, always in the morning. Last night I recognized a spot, where I didn't trim fully evenly my extended goatee the other day, so I corrected it. Once there, I have cleaned the contours with my Schick E. Only applying some water. This morning I had to get up early and I was in a rush. Instead of proper preps, I just whipped some lather on my face and shaved pretty quickly. Already during the first WTG pass, I felt that this won't be good. No blood was shed, but I had no such irritation for ages. Thinking about it, I had three suboptimal shaves in less than 24 hours. So a piece of expert's advice to anyone planning to do the same: don't.
