Almost akin to a 3 on the tree, or when Craftsman was actually "made in America" I remember when Craftsman was a sought after brand before it became junk that still had a good warranty. Sure a warranty is nice to have, but when it's a crummy tool likely to break, the time spent running to Sears to get a new one is money lost. Warranties mean something when the product is well made, when it isn't, it is a false sense of security. When it comes to tools, I have a mix. Big box store cheap crap on things I don't care about, don't use often and so and real good stuff for what I do use and depend on. I don't need a $20 pliers, but my furnace repair guy swears by one, but in his job it's a go to tool used throughout the day. I need a pliers once a month.

My only new SE is the Razorock Hawk V2 which I really like. It kind of gets a pass in my opinion as the AC blades really came along later in the game and (correct me if I'm wrong - wait this is the internet, goes with out saying ) they were originally for unmentionables. It was later that someone thought to build an SE razor and make use of the blade. I can navigate that width, but think the width of the Gem or Injector is a little easier to navigate. I sometimes want the Blackland Sabre www.blacklandrazors.com/sabre but what keeps me from pulling the trigger is the fact that it's most likely not going to shave any better than the vintage razors and some of them, especially the Damaskeene are friggin' works of art Is there a sign up for the Starling pass around? The starling is aluminum with a green and purple plate, correct? That is the one. Look in the loaners to find the pass around. It is stalled with twhite last I heard. Yes I need to send it back to you come Tuesday.

You will enjoy it. It wasn't for me, but then again that is just my humble opinion.

I agree with the OP, and I probably should support the new manufacturers, but I like the price of the vintage razors and they work. So I have no newly made SE razors. Yep, I've seen pictures of your razors and it looked like you had the razors you use in your normal rotation with a spare of each. Pretty much what I'm down to now, however I PIFed away the spares. Wish I hadn't, now I need to get new spares. If they ate something I might part with some, but they consume nothing, so I hold onto them. For what I payed for them I doubt that I could replace them for the same $. I figure if I croak the collection will make the wife appreciate me all the more when she has to liquidate the collection, as with most of what I have in other collections. I figure I'll hear her cussing (she doesn't cuss) all the way to heaven. I get to have the last word and it isn't, "Yes dear.". In the meantime I enjoy them and as already mentioned by others I wonder about the hands that they passed through to get to me. I dwell on the Audi Murphy types mostly and not the drug addicts who sold them to get their next fix. Hey, reality sux but I needed to mention it. I doubt the latter used them at all. Audie Murphy, yeah, he'd be clean shaven in my fantasy world.

Why buy new ones-there's nothing wrong with the old ones. I don't need several blade choices either. The prices of new models could get you a collection of vintage razors to be proud of!! I'll stick with the tried and true. I've used them for 20 years and can't wear them out. I often wonder how many owners some of my razors have had over the years. I too often wonder who owned the razor before me. Back in the day most men could be assured of getting a new razor as a holiday gift from someone in his immediate family. A lot of the razors we now have stewardship over were bought with love as a gift for a spouse. Then many were passed down to the children. There's more than just good shaves in the history of these old razors. I think theres a romance to the nosthalgic aspect to this hobby that attracts me as much as the GREAT SHAVES!! And the shaves are great! Hell, I was getting great shaves with my shavette...But it was nothing like picking up a Micromatic or a Lather Catcher...and these fuctional art masterpieces shave great too!! And they create a bond with the past that is undeniable...I looked at my Schick E2 and could feel someone shopping at Christmas right before WW2...excitement in the air...Jazz on the radio!

There is something about doing things the old way, back before they were made without any "feeling" Yep OS, I think you hit the nail on the head. Yep!! Made with "feeling"...Thats true...very true... Different topic, but post related... I remember my Pop said, Christmas before WW2 he picked up an all metal Schick Injector...Not a Repeater like his Dad had, but a new injector. Now I'm thinking either a D or F type. And he was knocked out with it! He thought it was the hippest thing!.... Then a few months later Pearl Harbor. Dad quit VPI in his Senior year as an enginneering major to join the Navy and go to the South Pacific. The day he signed at ghe Naval Induction Center, the guy said as he was leaving, "Be back bright and early before 0600 Saturday morning. A bus will pick you up here, to take you to Little Creek, and don't pack anything!" Dad said, "I'll just bring my shaving kit" And the guy said, "Nooo, Nooo, you'll be issued everything you need...even a Military razor!". This bummed Dad out bigtime! He was crazy for that Schick Injector. All he could think of was his friends in the Army being issued Gillette Techs. He said, "Whatever...after Basic, I'll pick up another Schick if I can" So then he when he was issued a Schick Injector he flipped!! He and his friends were soo proud of how the Navy was looking out for them!! There you go...When I see razors like these.I think of service men so happy to get an injector...Or my Pop waiting to ship out for first Cuba then the South Pacific. They are excited and they are also glad their outfit is first class...and their razors are part if this pride... My Pop picked up a couple more Schick Injectors...and he said they were very valuble. Everyone wanted one..So when you were playing Poker with other servicemen in warzones...cigarettes were like money, and a Schick injector was worth several cartons of cigs...lol! I do know he had a E2 butterscotch handle in a red leather case. And probably an E3 in a blue case...and an E2 with a black handle...That was the one he brought back and used til 1958, when he scored a new Hydro-matic! He must have loved that black handle E2...He used it over 15 years every morning! There are a million stories in the Naked Shave Cave...This has been one of them! 😎
