Definitely still more irritating than an unmentionable shave. I need to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Finish product was good though. Are you using a familiar blade? Gem blades. Only SE I've tried

Are you using a familiar blade? Gem blades. Only SE I've tried The Gem PTFE blades are by far my favorite, but I do occasionally get a rough one. A quick palm strop works wonders. Starting out with SEs, when I used a razor with a fair bit of exposure, I routinely palm stropped the blade (3-5 times, each side) before using the blade the first time. Settles it down nicely and made for a very different experience. Some people use denim or cork, but my palm is just right. Let me know if you need some guidance in terms of palm stropping, or you can probably find a YouTube vid demonstration. It's about an 8 second procedure.

Definitely still more irritating than an unmentionable shave. I need to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Finish product was good though. I second others comments that you'll get there. I also agree that the first shave (or two) with GEM SS PTFE can be on the harsh side and produce some irritation. But for me, I was almost always getting irritation around my Adam's Apple and lower throat....never happened with unmentionables, always happened with GEM SE's and Injectors. Turns out it was caused by me cutting against the grain. Basically, I started really paying attention to how the hair grew in the areas with irritation and realized that I needed to change the direction I shaved in those areas....once I did, it cleared up. I can't really explain why unmentionables don't have that effect, but SE's definitely "care" about the direction of the pass (With the Grain and Cross the Grain are fine -- Against the Grain, not in those sensitive areas). Hope this is helpful. Best of luck and keep us posted!

Thur 13th June. Cyril Salter / Maseto ED. 2band P & B Pall Mall Mongoose B3 Schick Proline [ 4 ] Floid Vigoroso A/S Lotion Had a delayed Shave yesterday, some extra 7 hours growth. Using quite short deliberate strokes initially, the Razor/Blade combo worked very smoothly and efficiently to clear the extra growth. The complete shave was completed quite quickly and was the best I have had in this rotation.

Friday 14th June Pears Glycerine Soap Haslinger Honig Shaving Soap Yaqi Metal 24mm Synthetic Brush Rolls Razor Alum and Rinse Witch Hazel Dove Moisturiser Benjamins Bay Rum with Pimento My first shave with my recently acquired Rolls Razor. I am not sure how it should feel in use and I had to remind myself that the blade is actually a wedge and initially I think I had the angle wrong but it improved when I positioned it flatter and used shorter strokes. At times there was some tug......not as sharp as other blades I use but 3 passes left me DFS+ with the satisfaction of having at last....used a Rolls. The shave passed the Alum test....so a very good first attempt.

Friday's ShaveCold Water Rinse @vintagelife Licorice Jayaruh #273 Synthetic AutoStrop A1 Valet AutoStrop (5) CWR Florida Water This is my first shave with the Licorice and my fifth with the AutoStrop blade. I stropped the blade before and after the shave. My prep was just a cold water rinse. The Vintage Life Licorice Shave Soap face lathered well with the Jayaruh #273 Synthetic brush. I did two passes with the AutoStrop A1 razor with a Valet AutoStrop blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Florida Water. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Star 1912 style razor Gem Stainless blade Vie-Long Silver Tip brush Fume Shave Soap Osage Rub/Witch Hazel w/aloe Barbasol Brisk A/S w/added menthol
Another nice SE shave. Seems I have my SE mojo back and I'm glad. The Fume Shave Soap is another really nice Turkish soap that I've been told is no longer made. That's to bad and glad I have another. My face is happy. Now go enjoy your weekend folks.
