Well today was Shave #3 on this Blue Star Carbon. I put 40 strops to it and went at it.
Today was kind of a tuggy pully kind of shave...Nope...didn't dig it...
So after the shave I pulled the blade out and tossed it!
Then about 30 mins later I realized...whoa, what a close smooth shave I got...Veddy BBS.Then I wished I hadn't tossed that blade, ha,ha.. I don't know why it felt so tuggy! But the results were great!...
Anyway....the experimenting will continue.....

Those micro chips will tug, while the rest of the blade is fine. Do you have an eye loupe? I got 5 shaves and should have stopped at 4 with the blue star being stropped.

I forgot to add my 15th shave. Here it is. This was last Friday. Here is today's Menthol Monday shave. It is #16 with the Valet AutoStrop blade. I switched razors for my VB2 for this week.

#26. Same blade. Zero signs of slowing down. Wow, that's good. Mine is still going strong, too.

Are you using the rubbery Strop or ghe leather one? And also, how many strops are you doing, before/after ?

V-L...I was thinking of trying another Blue Star...Do you think 5 is tops for these blades.?..I remember you got alot more on the carbon Feathers. I'm seeing Dave and Sir Jay filling their Auto-Strop Challenge Cards up; using the rustless valet blades...maybe thats the only blade that will take it. But then Fuzzy had trouble with those. Maybe the trick is finding the right perticular example... Thoughts? I'm going to try another Blue Star, unless I hear different from you guys....I did some pretty bad strokes on alot of my stropping...But there at the end of that blade, I felt like I was getting some decent moves on my strop. Has anyone compared the structural difference in the edges of the valet blades vs modern carbons?

I never had much luck with the early blades with no cut outs on them but seeing others have it might just be the particular one I had and upon acquisition of another will revisit. I’ve had the best luck with the cut out ones, either unlabeled or labeled rustless finish.

I’ve had the best luck with the cut out ones, either unlabeled or labeled rustless finish. I have never used or seen an early blade with no cut outs. I imagine they were all used up. Being carbon blades, they may not have survived 90-100 years. If I could get my hands on one/some, I would certainly give them a try if they were in "good shape."
