Menthol Monday's ShaveCold Water Rinse Kiss My Face Cool Mint Moisture Shave Cream The Brush by Tom Gillette Techmatic Techmatic Adjustable Osage Rub I broke out the old Gillette Techmatic for this weeks' shaves. I will use it through Friday in remembrance of the Apollo Moon Landing. My prep was just a cold water rinse. The Kiss My Face Cool Mint Moisture Shave Cream face lathered well with The Brush by Tom. I did two passes with the Gillette Techmatic razor with a Techmatic Adjustable razor band and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Osage Rub. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

July 22nd
Well I set aside my beloved Magazine Repeating Razor (aka Schick Type A) away today and tried out a new-to-me Gem 1912 "Squat" curved head. Apparently there are "squat" and/or "flat" 1912s with both a curved and beveled top caps -- mine is curved and since I'm a fan of the curved heads, I'm more than happy. The only downside of today's shave was lack of efficiency -- not sure if the GEM SS PTFE blade is giving up the ghost, or if the 1912 is just lacking a bit in the efficiency department. My guess is that it's the razor (not the blade). The shave was very mild (much like a Dammy), but after 3-passes and a full-on touch-up, I did get a darn fine shave....I also had a slight case of irritation from over-shaving some areas. So what did I learn -- when moving from an ultra-efficient razor like the Type A (2 passes and a spot touch-up with baby appearing), versus something a bit less efficient, I should've stopped at 2 passes and taken a very nice shave -- so the problem is of course, me. I was enjoying the shave, but every time I checked how things were going, it just wasn't the same as the Schick, and so I over did it. I will say that the irritation was really minor and gone after about an hour, but I was annoyed with myself. I definitely wasn't annoyed with this little guy -- he might well be a decent daily shaver for as mild as he felt, and if I keep things in perspective, he might also make a really good travel razor. Here's the pic and setup: Gem 1912 "squat/flat" with a curved cap and sporting a GEM SS PTFE blade | Haslinger's Schafmilch | Yaqi 24mm Mew Brown Synth| Krampert's Finest Frostbite. Also including a quick pic of the Squat next to a regular 1912 next to a Damaskeene.

Done with my Williams month and enjoying some variety. LaToja Shave stick (cut for mug) Gem Junior with Stainless Blade Synthetic Brush British Sterling Duke Cannon Balm The stainless blades are a bit rougher than the carbon and I was going ATG more than I should have. Could have had a damn fine shave, BUT NOOOOOO, had to push it. So the Duke Cannon balm was used rather than the British sterling.

Could have had a damn fine shave, BUT NOOOOOO, had to push it. You're in good company (or at least in my company ) -- I have sooooo "been there, done that" more times than I'd like to admit.

I normally am two passes and cleanup. That's what I intended today, but with the ATG pass I had a few weepers and should have called it a day, but didn't. They were on my upper lip which sometimes I don't go ATG with as it is the most difficult ATG area for me. Usually though SE razors work fine there.
Oh well, I've heard the stainless gem blades are a little rough out of the gate and then they smooth out. If that's the case, the next go should be better.
I will say I like the La Toja soap A LOT.

Tue 23rd July. RazoRock Syn. 24mm P & B Citra Royale ER 1912-Bathroom set Gem S/S [ 6 ] Alcolado Glacial A/S splash Without doubt I get good quality Shaves with my AC/SEs, but there is something about the challenge of getting a good Shave from a Vintage SE that puts them apart. This British 1912 is very good as it was designed for use with the current Gem blades. I had no problems getting a decent Shave, though a fresher blade might have improved the finish around the neck.
