I believe that the spring that holds the blade forward on lather catchers could allow a slight back and forth motion on the blade this adjusting slightly during a shave

Perhaps, I had never considered that before.

I think the design wasn't broken when they tried to fix it----a standard for engineering!! I love the 1912's, but as well as AC's.

I never thought that they shaved any better than any of the later models, just differently.

I love shaving with my lather catchers. In fact Sunday is lather catcher day for me. I rotate through my LSs on Sundays. Just finished a handle for a guy across the street.

I saw an ad for the GEM Jr Bar LC, and they showed how they had switched to the Bar from the spring loaded side blade holders.. and thst some other razor companies wrre still using the old spring loaded side blade holders on their new razors...
What!!! They are talking about my 1913ish ER Lather Catcher... Hey...I think the Jr Bar design is beautiful...BUT!! I'LL put the way my ER Lather Catcher with that 1907 type head, up against ANY razor, before or since...Somethings just can't be improved upon...Perfection is perfection, plain and simple.....I rest my case...😎

I've owned 3 GEM Jr Bar LCs Bird. The first one I couldn't get a good shave from because it was too mild. I couldn't believe that was a representive razor, something had to be unusual about mine. If memory serves I repeated that 2 more times, each one with the same result. But I agree, it's a gorgeous piece of shaving art and because of that I wanted them to work for me in the worst way. But other LCs do work for me. But the Jr Bar... we just couldn't hit it off and to this day I don't really know why. It certainly wasn't for lack of trying. To date it's the only razor that I haven't been able to get along with. But others got them and I hope they are doing what the razors should be doing for them.

If I am not mistaken I ended up with one of your 1910 heads. Shaved with it for Williams Wednesday. As to the OP. The tab on the back of the head is what really holds the blade against the stops. For whatever reason though they just shave great.

It's certainly possible. I think I put one or 2 in folks hands on this forum.
