I have a question for everybody. Does anybody have any info on a Bedford Safety Razor. I have an acquaintance who is selling their mothers razor collection. Mostly unmentionables. But this one interests me. Waits only has a small paragraph. Here is a picture. What is a fair price to offer? Note this is a pic from the net. The one in question is complete minus the cardboard box.

I've got a patent, but not much else beyond Waits: razors.click/patents/US1017138/As for a fair price: no idea. Is it rare? Yes. Is it desirable? Your decision. Is it usable? Dunno. How much do they want?

How much do they want? All the same questions went through my head. It has a few blades for it. I might be able to modify a current blade to work also. They don’t have any Idea what they want.

Non-wedge vintage blade from that period are utterly useless, except as a template. If I saw this razor for sale I'd be willing to pay no more than (quick calculation in head...) $30 But I'm a tight bastard and just got stung with a hefty customs bill for forgetting that Switzerland is not in the EU.

Haha. Yes the blades then were lacking. It is small enough to mod a Gem. I think that is all I am willing to pay too. Especially it is shaved poorly I would be very bummed.

Hi Tom -- the $30 mark feels right to me as well, and that is coming from someone with a nostalgic soft-spot for the Bedford, MA area. When my dad, who was in the USAF, came back from his Vietnam tour, his/our next base of station was Hanscom Field/AFB in Bedford. My dad came back from that tour a changed man....I think he was so grateful to make it back that he was an even better father and husband than when he left. So my fondest childhood memories are in Bedford, MA. If you've never been, it is worth a visit. It's an area steeped in history and the Bedford, Concord, Lexington areas are naturally beautiful. I go back there periodically to walk around and reflect on both our country's history and my own. Nostalgia aside -- and you may have already discovered this info -- here are some things I found while searching about on this razor: - This link has a great picture of the complete kit....blades and all: Bedford Safety Razor
- This link contains a full page ad on the Bedford Safety razor in, of all things, a magazine on Magic: Magazine of Magic Ad
Hope this is helpful.
