It is kind of like being in a bar... it is a mix. There is always a cranky old guy... usually myself actually. We will keep away from personal attacks. However I do not feel the Colonel there is meant to be that. Thanks for the clarification. The image we have initially is quite different, it seems that here there are rules that prohibit verbal abuse and personal attacks. And in fact I had never seen an old fluke make so much noise. Maybe it's for the language barrier ... The Persistent Debate Troll I have a low tolerance for the know-it-all, better-than-you types. Please, do not use terms you don't understand. I won't get bogged down in someone's post if it is too long or of no interest to me. Just move on to something else. +1

I don't weigh razors, or pay attention when the numbers are printed in front of me, it doesn't matter what a razor weighs. I can't stand the guys who won't buy a razor until they know what the blade gap is, that doesn't matter either. Shave man! Be happy! I have a low tolerance for the know-it-all, better-than-you types. This forum has been free from that annoyance and I really hate to see it be corrupted in that way. Did I step on your toes by mentioning the weight differences?

After reading on in this thread it came to my mind that in one segment newer razors could indeed offer new possibilities. A TNNSER weighs in between 19g and 25g depending on material used for printing. Apart from disposables, I think a BIC unmentionable (Fuzzy was here) is around 5g, there are no similarly lightweight razors. AFAIK certainly no vintage SE ones. I have no idea of the actual weight of an Enders. Although I assume ShaDe bakelite razors could be very light weight as well. br godek The Featherweight and Push Button razors are lighter than average, but most shavers don't see that as a positive thing really. There is no secret formula that's gonna make the perfect razor. Learn to shave, the old fashioned way, that's all that matters.

Weight is often used as a crutch by those with poor technique. They say they need a heavier razor, but in fact they need to do just as TobyC said. Learn to shave the old fashioned way and all is good.

There was a time on another forum where a gent was making custom handles. He got talked into making truly massive and heavy handles and all I could do was to shake my head. I never did see the sense in those massive handles. I bought 2 of his handles but they were normally sized handles of a normal weight.

Does using newer stuff give better shaves? I think it's mostly in the blade. If the blade is good and you have a good razor that holds it properly, it's all in the angle. I find my Blackland Sabre is easier to use than my GEM, but then again I don't use my GEM as much as I probably should.

To me weather it is old or new. All these devices are doing is supporting the blade and giving you something to hold on to. On a sliding scale. A brand new blade is capable of delivering a 10. With everything optimized. It goes down from there all depending many factors. Taking shaving skill out of the formula. My observations are Blade rigidity number one. Then would be the handle design. This only helps to allow the user to achieve optimal angle for their needs.
After this anything else we add to the razor will start diminishing optimal shave quality. ie Safety bar that restricts the amount of exposure. Cap too tall to get your correct blade angle. (Think Igor’s hump) the list goes on.
So theoretically new razors do have the potential for better shaves. So it all comes down to what pleases YOU. Do not let anybody try to belittle you for YOUR choice of razor.
It’s your shave, enjoy it how YOU like.

We are all in this for different reasons and these reasons are valid for each and every one of us. Honestly we should be all inclusive and just encourage all. No matter your preference SE, others style blade holder or new fangled thingies. Can't we all just get along!
