I use the Strand Safety Razor Blade Sharpner to sharpen a Damaskeene blade. Tom White sent me his sharpner to sharpen my blades. This video is the second blade I sharpened. I put one in this open-face Damaskeene razor with home-made Darwin wooden handle. I will use this to test the blade.

Very interesting. It's hard to tell watching on my cell phone. Was that water on top of the film that I saw or was there a little bubble under the film?

It must have been the water on top.

That was a really cool honing device there. Was that a blade you'd used previously and just touching up the edge or was that newly acquired old stock? How did the shave go?

I got a Damaskeene razor a while back, and it had three Damaskeene blades with it. They were all used, so this was a resharpening. The blade I used today was a little bit tuggy, but it gave a great shave. I will take it back to the machine and see if I can improve on its performance.

Cool! I have a full box of these, all absolutely shave ready. I'm actually still on my first one which I set up for shaving with 50 laps each way using the GEM stropper and belt. I must have had 20 shaves off it (checks ... okay, 18) with just a strop (20 each way) after each shave. These blades play well.
When it's done, I was considering my Lansky as a possible sharpener.

The Strand looks to be a lovely piece of kit. There's an article here which, for all I know, was written by one of the forum residents www.oldjimbo.com/pics/shave/shaving.htmlI might invest in some lapping film - I've some Wilkinson hollow grounds I'd like to try to fettle, 2 Rolls sets wth blades and the odd Corrux.
