I recently got a puck of that from a gent on another forum. It's brown and obviously old. I saw "copyright 1973" on the carton, so it's no older than that.
It works fine! The soap does exactly what it should do. It lathers easily, has great cushion and lubricity. The "original" scent is mild, and for me, nice. But many soaps today have all of the same qualities. I'll use it up, and if I find more for a decent price I'll buy them, but I won't seek it out. I'll leave it to folks who appreciate old soaps more than I do to search out and find.
Edit: I need to proofread better.

Is it the Barbershop soap made by Franklin Toiletries? I have some of that and it is fantastic soap, highly recommended. I also have about a half dozen of their mugs and one brush, it's actually a pretty decent brush.

I believe that was the name on the box. I also seem to remember it being made in NJ. Unfortunately I threw the box away, just kept an end flap for the label on the bowl.
The puck is just a hair too big for the xs bowl. It sorta goes into it caddywumpus, but I'm using it out of a bowl anyway.
I agree, it's nice. I wouldn't mind having more, but as I wrote, I'll let others who appreciate the hunt more than I do find them.

Yup. I have one puck of this in a barbershop mug. I love it. I am on the hunt for a brush that will fit the barbershop stand I have.

Is that even a word that CAN be looked up?
It wasn't 45 years ago.

I also have a couple of pucks of this. I haven't used it for awhile, I'll have to revisit that sometime soon.
I also have the mug as well as their brush/razor stand that match the barbershop mug pictured above. I think I have 2 or 3 of the brushes as well. Along with another brush/razor stand that have a picture of a duck on it. I'm not sure if it was made by the same company but other than the duck instead of the barbershop logo it looks the same.

I have the matching stand also. It is not made for a SE razor but can be used I think.

HT, I don't mug lather, but I'd have to mount that just for the "cool" factor.
Do you plan on reknotting the brush? I'd just have to refurbish it and use it. Heck, it goes with the set!
I'll use my Barbershop Pro' soap tomorrow, and it's certainly not a liability on my shave. If I could get more easily I'd stock up on it. It's really nice soap with a pleasant scent.
It's among the soaps I'm trying to use up, not because I don't like it, but because this puck fell into my lap and I doubt I'll ever find more since I don't actively seek it out.

Yeah, it's definitely going up on the wall. I have two Barbershop brushes, so one of them will be used in the holder along with a razor. I won't get the brush re-knotted, I have no desire to re-knot any of my brushes. It'll probably just get put away or maybe put on display with some of the others I don't use. After cleaning it up the knot looks better but it's too worn to use.
I'm always on the lookout for more of this soap, it's great stuff. I know where one's tucked away at an antique mall, but they want $10 for it. I'm holding off hoping they'll reduce it but if it's still around after the first of the year I'll probably buy it.
