I had a great shave today with the Gem Featherweight Deluxe and a 3rd use Meijer blade. To bad the gold wash is faded so much on this one. I really like the groved handle on the Featherweight because of the positive grip and feel it gives. These are great razors. I just have to do a bit more buffing in tough spots than some razors. However doing so the results are close with very little irritation. Some razors make me pay for buffing on the neck. The Stirling Pharaoh's dreamsicle lathered well with cold water on SHD two band badger. medical anthropologist salary

Saturday SOTDRazor: Gem Junior with Gem Stainless Blade Soap: Williams Mug Brush: Fine Stout (this thing absolutely eats hard pucks - loaded more than I ever needed in very short order) AS: AV Ice Sport
Today's shave was the first one I wasn't on a timeline this week. Took my time really listened to the blade sing. You know when you've got things right. Great shave.

The Stirling Pharaoh's dreamsicle lathered well with cold water on SHD two band badger. I have a Featherweight Deluxe too with a substantial amount of loss of the gold on the cap and guard. It doesn't appear to be gold plated because it looks like a thin spray-on finish and under the gold finish is the chrome plated surface like on the standard Featherweight. Electroplating chrome with actual gold doesn't work, the 2 metals are not compatible that way.

I just figured if it was gold then the silver color under it would be whatever they put on before gold. Like nickel or something. I have seen other gem razors re-gold plated so just figured this was a gold plating also.

If they were going to electroplate with real gold, then nickel would be the compatible metal for the gold plating to adhere to successfully, or just the brass base metal. Most ASR razors that were electroplated with gold were plated directly onto the brass except the GEM (1912) Junior, every one I've seen that were gold plated were plated with nickel first, then gold. You'll also notice on the Featherweight Deluxe that the gold is a matt finish like a sprayed on fake gold paint.

Today's shave featured a Gem Jr. Parade with 4th use Meijer blade and a Schick Type B repeating razor with a new Proline B20. I haven't used this Schick much because the head was loose and would pivot during shaving. Tightening the screw didn't help. So yesterday I disassembled it and tightened the gap where it pivots. Success now it is very tight and doesn't move while shaving. I did most of the shave with the Schick and my wife shaved the back of my neck for me with the Gem. The Mer Shavings Fougere Orange lathered well with cold water on the SHD two band badger brush. A great shave altogether.
