Ok so I've been experimenting on gem blades to make them work well in the burham. My first experiment where I shoved the blade to the back of the spine made a blade too short. Well now I removed and opened the spine. Then I slide the blade back until it matched the length of the factory burham blade. Then I clamped the spine back down. I've discovered diagonal pliers can be used to recreate the dimples on the sides of the spine to lock in the blade. I'm getting better and better at it. Here's where I am at. www.flickr.com/photos/187068272@N03/49736327793/in/album-72157713759439627/

Something similar is done for Eagle Lather Catchers....they take a shortened (depth-wise) GEM blade. So the spine is removed, the blade is cut down using snips, and the spine is replaced. Never occurred to me to do that for my Burham....I've just been using it with the unmodified blade. I've enjoyed my shaves with unmodified blades, but I think I'm going to give your technique a try. I don't have an original blade, but I can experiment to find the "optimal" blade depth. Thanks!!!

Basically you want to make them about a milimeter shorter.
