I'm writting this review, because the Fuzz-meister likes a good nostalgic story. Most of you already know of my relationship with Schick...But for those who don't....
NOPE!! NOT GONNA HAPPEN!
Suffice it to say, I grew up in a firm Schick-House, which my father liked to keep that way, but he wasn't dictatorial, he just might trash an unmentional left on the sink though 🤣😂.
Anyway, this is about my father's early development into a Schick Head.
My Grand Dad used a Schick Repeater. I don't know which one. My Pop told me about it. But my Dad passed before I became aware of the different repeaters. But my Dad remembered his Dad having to....Well he told me, "This thing loaded a blade like a 45 Automatic, and it would jam just about as often too..."😁. So my Pop loved the way the Schick shaved, but he definitely thought the Injector with a separate blade magazine/loader was an improvement over the repeater. But he told me, if you ever find one, you're gonna love it's ingenuity. And he was right, my C3 is one of my all time favorites!
He said he copped a new all metal Injector right before Pearl Harbor. So it was either a D or F type. He fell in love with it. After Pearl Harbor my Pop quit "VPI" in his 3rd year, to join the War effort. He joined the Navy, and the recruiter said meet me here at 6:00am on Sat. morn. to catch the bus to Little Creek (basic), and don't bring anything. And my Pop said, "Yes Sir, I'll just bring my shaving kit" and the recruiter said, NOO, don't bring ANYTHING! You will be issued everything you need!
Pop said he was like, Ahh Man!! He loved that new, probably an F type, and he was afraid of what kind of unmentionable he was going to get issued!
Well as luck would have it, he was issued one of those Schick E3s in the Blue Box. He said all his fellow recruits were impressed with how well the Navy took care of details like this!
Skip ahead....as his Navy days unfolded...
He was, along with most enlisted men, into playing Poker. He said, Poker wasn't allowed on ship, but everybody did it. Cigarettes were the usual chips, but Whiskey (not allowed either) or Schick Injectors were like Big Stakes Pay Days!
Sometimes his Distroyer would be carrying Army guys or Marines somewhere. And the Army guys always wanted to get their hands on those Schicks lmao! So there would most certainly be a few card games.
Anyway, my Pop, by the end of the War had a few Schicks...a couple Blue Boxed Navy issues with the Plastic handled E3s, a Black E2 that opens which he kept for many years after the War, and a Butterscotch with Red Swirled handle E2 in a Red Box...that one was probably an Army issue. I'm guessing acquired at Poker...👍
He said that red swirled butterscotch handle looked alive. Which brings us up to now...I grabbed this about a year ago. I wish Pop was still here to check it out. I'm thinking this may not be my Pop's actual WWII razor...But it is about as close as I am gonna get.....
Hardly looks used.. certainly doesn't look 80 years old.
And damn if that red swirled butterscotched handle doesn't look ALIVE!
I see what he meant. So this razor is amazing. It's an E2 with a fixed blade and it's an amazing shaver...But because of my Pop, I dig it on many different levels!
So I've found this one....and I've had a couple I2s which was Pop's razor of choice when I was a small child watching him shave. And afterward trying to get that razor and play with it...Whew! An I2 Hydro-magic is magical for a 4 year old or for the 4 year old in us😁😉
But now I need to find that Black handle E2 that opens...thats the Grail! Thats the one he kept after the War, brought it home and even 15 years later after getting a new shiny I2, he kept that old corroded Black E2...I remember seeing that Black E2 around when I was in my 20's...He must have really loved that one!
The hunt continues!!
Ciao for now and Great Shaves Everybody!!
