I do not know if they are anything special. Probably not. But for that price I am gonna keep a few anyway to use.

Years ago I smoked pipes a lot. Mostly half bends and church wardens. I got a lot of them used and cleaned them up. I think it was Dunhill that had some products out for cleaning them. They even sold a tube of polish to restore vulcanite stems to a shiny appearance. I would imagine DDKK's method would work fine. Restoring old or used pipes is a good way to get to try 10 different pipe styles for half the price of one new one. I would get down to that store and pick them up. If you don't like them you can sell them on the bay or just leave them around for display. I had a round pipe rack that held 6 pipes. It had a glass tobacco jar in the center. I kept the pipes I really didn't use much in the rack and filled the glas jar with good smelling tobacco. I would take the cover off the jar everyday so that the room would have that nice tobacco smell.

How did you folks get into pipes/cigars?
A fella I talked with online sent me a huge package of pipes and tobacco as a gift and I tried it, like it lot. I went to a few pipe club meetings and a rep from one of the tobacco and pipe companies was giving away cigars from Cuba that they distribute and enjoy them as well. I don't smoke often, once a week at the most, more like twice a month.
What was your first tobacco?
I was given Montego Bay and loved the sweet rum flavour and aroma. Captain Black (white) is also a fav that people enjoy smelling. Everyone has a story about an uncle or grandfather, etc. that smoked a pipe.
Unlike cigs pipes seem to draw people to you.

I started with cigars about 13 years ago. My boss at the time smoked them. I tried and liked. Tried a pipe and liked. I used mostly drug store stuff with them. Captain black and such. It all smells good to me. I still use that stuff.
I have several of the racks with the glass jar. How do you keep it from drying out?

While I am not one to light up anymore (sighhhh), I do still enjoy tipping the cup when I'm in the mood. In the last year or so I have discovered scotch that I really can't afford, and by gawd some of it is deeeeelicious stuff. I just have to post my favorite so far - this very peaty scotch - the 10 year (all I could afford!) Ardbeg scotch. YUM! ARDBEG 10 - try a wee dram!

I need to try scotch again. Did not care much for it before. Might be better now.

I pretty much hated scotch most of my life. Thought it tasted like smoky Iodine. Then about 5 years ago I did a favor for a guy and he bought me a bottle of some good stuff. I liked it a lot. Ever since then I can enjoy it. Turns out everything I had tried prior was low end stuff that was not a good representation of real scotch.

Any of you newer folks cigar smokers? I have been a cigar smoker for a few years now. My friend and head to a local eatery that is putting in a cigar lounge. Mostly old marines and various other service branches. It is always a good time. My general smokes are Oliva Serie V or Diesel Unholy Cocktail. I usually pair them with a dark beer.

Thats a sweet stubby pipe! Looks cool just sitting there!
At 40 yrs old, I finally gave up smoking after 20+ yrs of it... My sense of smell and taste are 10 times better than they used to be. Found a new love for colognes, perfumes, fine food and wine. Smell and taste are intertwined as we all know.
If anyone has an interest in electronic cigarettes, please contact me with a message. After trying every other method of stopping smoking and failing, this method worked like a champ. My brain still gets the nicotine it craves, but without all the cancer causing stuff. Being able to do it anywhere is nice also. Just dont buy an ecig or anything for one retail if you can. I know where to buy online, stuff is cheap! Forgive me if I sound preachy, not my intention. I do enjoy a fine maduro cigar once or twice a year.
