I have a doubt regarding the maintenance of Micromatic
As the inside has several moving parts and the spring, the inside should not be lubricated?
Someone lubricates the Micromatic and what is the procedure used?

Never have lubed one. None have needed it. But maybe a mineral oil soak would work?

I don't feel the MM needs lubrication either. The parts are quite large and there really is no need for lubrication. Some people have used mineral oil (baby oil) but I don't feel it is needed.
RF - does your razor open and close?? If yes, it is working yes? Why do you want to oil it?

RF, I like to maintain things. I buy them, maintain them, and my thought is that I'll have them much longer, and that's the way it is for most things. I oiled my razors in the past and have since reexamined that practice. It was discussed somewhere and the consensus was that razors in general were designed to be lubricated with water while it's in use. So that's what I also do.
The concensus also was that oil would get into the mechanism and if anything else (gunk) was in there it would just make for additional problems by mixing with the gunk.
I have one OCMM that after I soak it and oil it, the cover will not open unless I help it along. If I give it a month or so to "rest" it works as it should again. I repeated this twice and it was the same each time. So it's no more love for that particular razor, at least as far as cleaning and lubing it goes.
My advise is just use it and clean it periodically- other than that, just forget that it exists.

Raimundo,
Welcome to TOStoo! The only advice I can give concerning a Micro"junk"omatic and its maintenance is to simply through it in the trash!
You will soon learn that I do not like these razors. ;D See my signature!!

A long soak in soapy water made with dish soap has helped a couple of mine that were a bit sticky when opening and closing. I got this Flying Wing recently and it hasn't been used much at all judging by it's appearance. The tto was very stiff so I soaked it overnight and it made it a lot easier to open and close. I'm not a big fan of the Flying Wing, I used this one once just so I can say it was used but it's now been relegated to display status in my office.

I made the question more as a matter of prevention. My Micromatic has no problems, opens and closes smoothly. I'm glad that it is not necessary to lubricate the Micromatic. As Micromatic is my favorite razor and taking account your words, tomorrow I will begin testing the Streamline, to see if I change my opinion about what is my favorite razor. ;D

Don't let possom change ya mind. He just can't use a real razor. Poor fella. But I can use a piece of sharp stone or flint and get a DFS. That is more than I can say about the Micro"Junk"omatic.

LOL! I'm glad Possum chimed in on this one. Always a ray of sunshine when it comes to one of the FINEST RAZORS EVER MADE.
I pick up a OCMMagic at an antique store every now and then to add to the draw that's already full of them. I just can't resist when I find a beauty for cheap. Anyway, if it's sticky I'll go the Mineral Oil soak over night. If it's not I follow the "ain't broke don't fix" mantra.
Have fun!

Possum, you wouldn't have a video of that perchance? That's something I'd like to see.
BTW, chipped flint is EXTREMELY sharp and definitely capable of shaving with.

Actually obsidian is better than flint. By the way, I taught Mike how to do this when he was in Boy Scouts. Used this technique as a young man on Boy Scout camping trips.

That video is absolutely awesome!!! I have gotta find me a hunk of obsidian now. Bryce, ya gotta give some online instructions on this.
I made some arrow heads in some anthropology class once and just wish we had looked at shaving edges instead!
(Just wanna add that a stone flake like that pretty much sports a single edge and looks pretty much safe, so as a Single Edge Safety Flake Razor they should fit in here nicely. )
Very very cool! I gotta get me a hunk.
