Guess we won't start our investigation of this razor this week...
Thats the good thing about Priority Mail...You don't get it on time....but at least tracking can tell you how many days and approximately where it was lost, and can estimate how much longer it will take...unless they lose it again!
From what tracking is telling me...this razor is still hanging out at it's original point of departure!! Says it going to be a little late! I GUESS SO! It's been at the post office in West Virginia, where it was mailed from, for a week! I think they should refund my shipping fee! Unbelievable!! The guy I bought it from mailed it immediately...The USPS dropped the ball...and left it dropped for days and days!
SCHEESH!! Third World at best!
Rant on hold! We will return you to your regular programing...

Could be.....as of right now, the USPS has no idea where it is...They just know its late, but they don't know where or what State it is in! We shall see....at least it is insured.

I was looking at my Stoll ebay order and shipping info. There was a thing that said click here if your order is late. So, just to see what it said, I clicked it...I mean, my order is late....I was gonna wait til Mon. but I clicked just to see what kind of form was there.
When I click, a messsge popped up saying. "Give it one more day"
I shrugged it off, and said sure thing. But how did they know what was happening?...I didn't fill anything out.
Then one hour later I get an email from Ebay saying my package just arrived at the Seattle Dist.Center.
Wow...Ebay came through...I didn't expect it... So I clicked that "for more info" and it said it would be delivered tomorrow!
Cool...I'll take it!! 👍👍Wish I hadn't shaved today,😜😁

The Eagle has landed!! First shave was GREAT! Mine held the blade perfect. Heres the blade retaining spring down with no blade and blade cover closed And here it is in the up position holding a blade forward, with the blade cover closed: THESE ARE MY FIRST SHAVE IMPRESSIONS!! On an aggression level, I'd say this one feels mild...not as mild as my open comb Dammy. But it feels mild. Very nice. The sound is loud, and the results are similar to my ER 1914. The window of attack is small. You need to ride the cap and listen for the feedback. But when you hear it, and have the right angle...This one is as good as any shaver I have! When it's clicked it, it feels mild but is pretty aggressive. In that respect its a little Dammy-like. Looking forward to more testing...First impressions are Super! Feels mild but gave me a very easy BBS in 2 passes! JAWS: Thank you guys for shaking me up! I'd been wanting one since HoosierTrooper first told me about it, many years ago. I actively looked for a long time...Kind of gave up...I found the ER 1909 easier than I found this one! LOL!!

I think your observation of a small "window of attack" is spot on. As I suspected, many of my "issues" are self-inflicted with lazy technique -- the Starling V2 had a small attack window as well, and I experienced similar results with it. Bottom line is that you've definitely inspired me to return to the Stoll in the future and really spend some time. I've no doubt that the results will be worth it.

birdlives that is awesome. I will have to dig out my 1915 Kampfe/star. It might be the next in line. No lever to hold the blade but over all looks similar.

Well....I've now shaved with this Stoll/Kampfe-Star 1914 Shovelhead for a week.. Bottom line..I love it! It's in my Ultra Top Tier! One of my favorites! It has a smaller type window of opportunity than some razors. But the angle was pretty intuitive for me. Typical SE razor angle, similar to the MM's. I love the convex blade cover. Makes finding and keeping that angle a snap. And I like when I rinse it with hot water, the warm convex cover feels good! I that regard it's similar to my OC Dammy, but this one is definitely more aggressive...while feeling mild and smooth! Yesterday I had pretty much a BBS, with one pass...But I did the Pat'd Fuzzy Witch Hazel pass.....Because thats what we do...And that sealed the BBS deal. As those closest to me know, my wife rates my shaves. And she is a very tough judge!😳 And she's been remarking EVERY shave this week with unusually high ratings. Nothing lower than 4.9999 out of 5! 👍👍👍 Today's Shave: I read Richard Kampfe's patent application for this razor. In his remarks, he said this blade retention spring was designed to lower the cost of manufacturing without sacrificing the quality of the shave. In fact, maybe even improving on it. Well, I think he hit his mark! Now Richard is going into my Hall of Fame, Designers, with de Mesquita and Co. I might be going a little over the top, on this one. But I can't help it....This razor pushes all the right buttons for me personally...but YMMV..🙃

OK....now I think I might see what some of the misunderstanding this razor might be getting. Its possible, if you put the blade in...and you must really push it all the way forward under those front blade stops. Those stops are very tight, so you might think the blade is all the way in, before it really is. Now after it's in...and you pull the retention spring back and then all the way up, to hold the blade forward. Then you hold the razor in one hand and press the cover shut with the other....it's possible to push it till it snaps in place, and continue pushing it til it passes that first snap. If you do that, it will push the blade retension spring down, till it falls loose or is barely holding the spine of the blade. I automatically just hold under the spring with my thumb and close the cover with my trigger finger and pinch the top towards my thumb till it just snaps.... or I use my pointer finger and close the cover with my thumb, and pinch together til it just closes to that first snap...Like this: Right Hand: Left Hand: ...or . These razors are over 100 years old...if you gorilla these tops shut, they will pass that first snap and close TOO far. But these are also well made. Once shut, I haven't had any issues. Also, if I start off feeling that convex cover just touching my face and I follow the sound, this razor gives amazing very close shaves. And inspires acts of high speed, reckless abandon!!😜🤣
