OK....now I think I might see what some of the misunderstanding this razor might be getting.
Its possible, if you put the blade in...and you must really push it all the way forward under those front blade stops. Those stops are very tight, so you might think the blade is all the way in, before it really is.
Now after it's in...and you pull the retention spring back and then all the way up, to hold the blade forward. Then you hold the razor in one hand and press the cover shut with the other....it's possible to push it till it snaps in place, and continue pushing it til it passes that first snap.
If you do that, it will push the blade retension spring down, till it falls loose or is barely holding the spine of the blade.
I automatically just hold under the spring with my thumb and close the cover with my trigger finger and pinch the top towards my thumb till it just snaps.... or I use my pointer finger and close the cover with my thumb, and pinch together til it just closes to that first snap...Like this:
These razors are over 100 years old...if you gorilla these tops shut, they will pass that first snap and close TOO far. But these are also well made. Once shut, I haven't had any issues.
Also, if I start off feeling that convex cover just touching my face and I follow the sound, this razor gives amazing very close shaves. And inspires acts of high speed, reckless abandon!!😜🤣
Veddy awesome post! Thanks!!
