Greetings Saturday 27th October 2012 Prep: Shower Razor: Valet Autostrop Brit. Model Blade: Feather SE Brush: Vulfix 406 Boar Soap: Erasmic Supreme Stick Aftershave: Dove Sensitive Balm My very first shave with a Valet Razor I am not sure what model it is but it cost half a crown when it was new! That is 12.5 new pence or 20 US cents! It is the type with a side opening hinged, blade loading 'gate' that will only accept the feather SE blades and not standard SE blades with the top corners snipped off. It gave me a really good shave but it is IMHO very critical about angle (even more so than Micromatics) I found it vital to keep the razor head almost flat against my face or it would not cut, which is exactly what it states in the instruction leaflet that came with the razor. A nice shave from a razor that is a bit 'quirky' even by SE standards! Regards Dick

Gem Cutlery Damaskeene Gem SS/PFTE Blade (14) Turkish #6 Brush KMF Cool Mint Cream Pereja Lemon Cologne
As much as I'm enjoying it, today is the last time I'll be using the Dammy for several days. There have been too many razors languishing in neglect for the past two weeks. Tomorrow: A fresh blade and my old friend the OCMM.

Greetings
Sunday 28th October 2012 Prep: Shower Razor: Valet Autostrop Blade: Feather SE Brush: Omega 10810 Boar Soap: Tabac Aftershave: Dove Sensitive Balm
Another very close shave but the Feather SE blade felt 'draggy/tuggy' and although this sounds extreme it has, after just two shaves expired!
My beard is only medium, I really think that somebody with a very heavy beard would notice the blade turn from as smooth as silk to 'tuggy' in a single shave. I find that a real shame because these blades are not only relatively expensive but they are the only modern blade that will fit in all but the earliest model of Valet razors.
I have attempted to strop a NOS original Valet blade with no success which continues my cumulative success rate at stropping SE blades to remain at 0%.
Regards Dick.

Sunday, 28 October
Gem OCMM Gem SS/PFTE Blade (1) Made-Rite 500PB Brush Arko Shave Stick Pereja Lemon Cologne
As I was loading up a new blade, I found that the next one in my blade vault had no protective sleeve on it. I thought it might have been one that I had gotten out of one of the plastic blade vaults that blades from Walgreens come in but I was equally suspicious that it might have been used either by my wife or my youngest son for one of their projects and then returned to the vault. Against my better judgement (and reflective of my frugality), I decided to try it in the OCMM. Big mistake! The thing was dull beyond belief and part way into my second pass,. I put in a fresh blade - one that still had the cardboard sleeve on it. I'll have to say this was the most dramatic illustration of the difference between a sharp blade and a dull blade that I've ever experienced.
