Monday:(ER'14 Trial Week 2) Ever-Ready 1914 Original Type GEM PTFE Blade (8) Pre Shave Mystryglow soap (local artisan) LAB Series Maximum Comfort Shave Cream VDH Boar
Received a few samples of shave creams etc with a razor handle I bought months ago, decided to give it a try.Another solid shave,I've continued to lighten my touch with the '14 day by day to the point where I let it float in a manner very similar to the technique I use with my Streamline.

Monday morning:
BurmaShave soap Simpson Special Best ER '14 GEM SS ptfe (12) Kramperts Finest Acadian Spice Bay Rum
A few days ago I suspeceted I might be about to chang the blade prematurely, but right now it appears I'll get at least 14 shaves from it, maybe more.
Razorx, the only reason I change up the hardware and software is because I used the same crappy cartridges for years and now I revel in the variety. A noob needs to be careful of changing variables, but I don't believe that you need to be. You'll be able to instantly put your finger on the variable that caused a flawed result.
Already I'm looking at what razor I'll use a blade from cradle to grave in. I hope the new Superior Lather Catchers get here in time!

Ever-Ready 1914 Tuesday Day 9 (something a bit different)
Off work today, lazy & laid back, almost didn't (face) shave. However I head shaved with the ER'14.....Quite an experience.Want to talk about the '14's auditory feedback ? Try head shaving and run the '14 just above your ear.....
What's that you say,you don't head shave ?
No problem, just watch Top Gun on a home theater system with surround sound activated and the volume cranked up to "10" Head shaving with the '14 sounds like Mavrick and the Iceman are having a practice dog fight in their F-15's right above your head.
Then the Mrs dragged me North with her to try a new grocery store. On the way out she spotted some boxes of those 5 dollar red and white Burmashave brushes and brought them to my attention so what the heck,I decided why not,a 5 dollar brush to go with my 1 dollar mug soap has got to be a match made in heaven.
Got home a bit after lunchtime and decided to test lather the new brush (not bad, can't complain, see how it is after a week or so) Couldn't resist and turned my test lather into a face shave with the '14 + Blade: GEM PTFE (9)
I'm looking forward to seeing how the Streamline measures up following the ER '14's 2 week reign.I suspect their DNA has a few similarities.

Already I'm looking at what razor I'll use a blade from cradle to grave in. I hope the new Superior Lather Catchers get here in time! Thank you my friend, that got me to think about where I'm at.I know I see the value in using an unfamiliar razor long enough to learn it well but yes without realizing it I suppose I'm probably past the point of being concerned that introducing software variables may muddy the waters. It might be more than that,I'll admit it right here,I've got that romanticized nostalgic weak spot in my heart for simpler times where people walked to the corner store and bought razors, shaving mugs and brushes made here in the USA and basic shaving soap in a plain box. The software produced may be as good or better these days but imo except for a couple of exceptions, the razors ain't.I've made it a priority to get the vintage razors I want because whatever there is is all there is and they aren't making them anymore. I'm guilty of taking the software for granted,no matter how much money I have to burn,I'm guilty of clinging to the cheap stuff that's available locally that lets me pretend it's like the old days before the internet and mega stores, back to the old days when my Father and Grandfather were young and bought their shaving supplies down the street at the corner drugstore.Hell,my Grandfather was a Pharmacist and owned his own little corner drugstore.I know I can still find a BurmaShave Brush (yeah it's made in China) like I did today or a box of Williams within a mile or two from my home. It's not logical but I like that feeling,it's a small bit of something from simpler times long gone,a little piece of sanity in an often insane world.

I own one of the Burma Shave red and white Boar brushes and I can honestly say that I like it every bit as much and possibly more then my Semogue and Omegas and my Vulfix boars. I purchased mine from a drug store in Dover -Foxcroft Maine in 2004, I was visiting an old friend and work colleague who had moved there and I had forgotten my shaving brush.
It was poker stiff and unyielding for a very long while but it did eventually open up and soften. It is now a superb brush, if my memory serves me right I think 5 dollars is what I paid then, it would seem they are inflation proof!
I now see they are sold as Personna Burma Shave, I think the Chinese brush company Lijun makes them, but with Chinese companies names are pretty meaningless.
Regards Dick.

Wednesday Day Ten ER March 24,1914 GEM PTFE (10) BurmaShave Brush Williams Shave Soap Krampert's Finest Bay Rum
The '14 Trial's been a hoot,it feels like this blade could last forever in the Little Lather Catcher...
The BurmaShave brush seems solid Dick,it was interesting to hear about how your's has worked for you over time. It's shedding about as much as my Van Der Hagen Boar did.Kept me on my toes this morning.

Dick, as far as distances in Maine go, Dover-Foxcroft is only a stones throw away from me. It's a small world.
Wednesday mornings shave:
Barbershop Pro' shave bar Vulfix 2234 boar ER '14 GEM SS ptfe (14 and canned) Kramperts Finest Acadian Spice Bay Rum
Now faceturbating it seems I could have gotten a few more shaves out of the blade. It's too late now though.
A very worthwhile trial. Thanks for suggesting it. I got a really great shaving razor out of it and an appreciation of the '14 as a fine razor.
I don't use my 1912 very much. The next blade was installed in it for the blades lifespan.

Good deal Brian...
I have you to thank for not thinking I was crazy or cheap to take these SE blades several shaves beyond what I once considered "normal" and settle into my current 14 shaves per blade habit.
I still have 4 more shaves left in the blade that's onboard my 1914.Now seems a good time to pull it and let the blade spend the sunset of it's life in my far too neglected OCMM.It's been quite a long time since I've shaved with it.
