Greetings I never realised the spring system was different on the 'Patent Pending' model.

I'll be following this thread for sure.I knew there was a patent applied for model, but had no idea of the differences.

Very interesting razor! Patent 1091436 was applied for by Richard Kaufman on 12 Feb 1913 and of course it was approved on 24 Mar 14. I don't think there's any doubt they made some in 1913 and early 1914 before they started stamping the Patented March 24/14 on them.
The spring in the patent abstract resembles the one in the patent pending model, obviously at some point they changed to the other spring design for some reason. Maybe it was cheaper or easier to make or more reliable.

Really great pics, the blade stops look exactly like my earliest '14's
The springs seem to be the most vulnerable part of the '13's and '14's.Had a '14 off the bay that was perfectly mint in every way except the spring was loose and falling off when it arrived.Got my money back but damn shame to see a fine razor bite the dust.

Wow, great closeup of the spring! And that may be the exact reason they changed it.

So... Inquiring minds want to know... Any difference in the shave between a "standard" 1914 and the Pat. Pending?

Honestly I dont notice much of a difference between any of the '14's. I like them all, great razors!!
