To the best of my knowledge the term "Shovelhead" was coined right here by our own Razorx in one of the ER 24 threads. I happened to be on the web early this morning looking at razors (I know, if I'm thinning out the herd why am I looking?) and saw a 1924 described as "This razor is known as the 24 or Shovelhead". Looks like the name caught on. Razorx is going down in history!

I'm pretty sure I read the name on another forum long before this forum was made. I'm certain of it in fact.

Yeah, it was coined many years ago. Hate the name.

Been away a few days and just saw this. Thanks Alan! But it wasn't me,just using a ubiquitous shaving forum nickname that's probably been kicking around for quite a while and that fits that razor pretty well. I think there's a commonality between afficiendos of vintage razors and motorcycles, especially the single edge users. Quoting myself from last September: LOL "The name ? Forgive me for dragging motorcycle related content into this but I'm sure many of you are familar with the iconic Harley Davidson Shovelhead motor. The razor came decades before the motor but there's a common thread... (note the rocker box covers)" "The name was derived from the appearance of the rocker box covers. Because these covers bring to mind the head of coal shovels when inverted, the name shovelhead was a natural progression." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harley-Davidson_Shovelhead_engine

I can't figure for the life of me why that lovely young sexy thing would be called a 'Shovel-Head', but then I feel the same way about that chick in front of the Bike too.....lol Read more: theoriginalsafetytoo.com/thread/784/page/1/razorx-legacy#ixzz2TAO2E3Z3

I think calling that beauty a "Shovel head" would be somewhat correct. It would bring a shovel to your head.
