I never used anyone's bay rum until I used Brian's last night. I really like it. I was expecting a tingle like all my other alcohol based after shaves, but I had none. I was greeted with nice clean, spicy smell. As I told Brian that it reminded me of what my grandfather smelled like. Talk about a flashback. He passed away when I was sixteen, but I still remember the smell. Considering that was 40+ years ago, that in of itself was worth the price of the aftershave; however, how my face felt this morning, the softness of my cheeks was amazing. SWMBO also remarked how smooth my face was. Thanks Brian for making such a great product.

Soothing and the scent is rock solid, always sets the right tone for the day ahead. I could use it every day but I pick my spots and savor it. Great stuff from Brian

I could use it every day but I pick my spots and savor it. Yeah - same here. I just splashed some on this morning and am enjoying it immensely!! I am slow to use scents up. I have a bottle of cologne I bought probably 20 yrs ago. One of my favs. Obviously I don't use a lot!! I am a little over half way through on my Krampert's though - which for me is reflective of lots of use!! I have the original with Rum - and am trying to be judicious!

Thanks guys!
Italian Barber now has the Frostbite (menthol). It's even nicer on the skin, is loaded with frankincense, and the menthol hit... well, it's substantial. It doesn't play games. BTW, Italian Barber is the ONLY retailer at the moment. I don't even retail it.
RM, use it up! I guarantee you won't miss the lack of rum in the reformulated version. No one has yet. The other thing you won't miss is the Bitrex. That stuff is/was nasty! I hated working with it. Just the little that would go into the air from unscrewing the lid (invisible) would coat my lips and I'd taste the bitter. After that experience I always wore a respirator. I also kept chocolate on hand because that is the only tastebud antidote for the bitterness. Washing with H2O2 neutralizes it on the skin. It was just terrible stuff.

I just had a friend from B&B order some KF in the flask from BullGoose. He loves it.
I used my KF 40 Below this morning. Good stuff!

I've been using KFBR for about 6 mos. and am very happy wit it.I have bleech skin thanks to Psoriasis. Well this doesn't bother it at all and leaves my skin content , smooth and irritation free.I find a little goes a long way(3-4 drops)and lets a dfs or bbs really feel good.I'm glad I've got one in reserve too! Enjoy your shaves all!

Am I to understand that there is no rum in this product? I am not degrading this seemingly fine product, as I do not own it yet. I thought I read that there is no rum in it.

Am I to understand that there is no rum in this product? I am not degrading this seemingly fine product, as I do not own it yet. I thought I read that there is no rum in it. Although I cannot speak directly for Brian, the lack of rum in the product is a result of the ever intrusive ATF. In order to ship across state lines, alcohol (drinkable) content must always be taxed. The government must always get its fair share... But do not let the lack of rum stop you from ordering this fine product. It is great.

I would still probably like to try this out as it gets a lot of good reviews. Does this restriction also affect other Bay Rums? I would have thought it should have Rum in it in order for it to be called Bay Rum. Just one of those curiosities that gave me pause to wonder. I mean no offense to the makers of good products. (Thank you for the explanation!)

William, Rich got it pretty much right, except that it can be shipped across state lines if one wants to play the ATF games. So it certainly is possible that other bay rums contain rum. But it makes no difference to the final product... read on.
Whether one wants to or not, the taxes will be paid when the rum is purchased and I was paying the tax. Then again whether or not one wants to, one must fill out all sorts of forms and jump through all sorts of hoops to get that tax that was paid back. ATF also has to "approve" the product for the tax to be recouped. I didn't want my tax to be returned, I didn't want the hassle. I asked can I just forget all that crap. Just keep the bleepin' $ and leave me the heck alone. The answer basically was "no".
I agree, rum should be used in Bay Rum. But I found out when I reformulated mine that the alcohol doesn't need to be rum. The rum is only a solvent and a preservative. It has no bearing on the scent of the final product after it dries. Mine stared out as the real stuff and because of the go'vermin I had to reformulate it, but I kept the name.
One positive to not using rum... When I used rum I had to denature it. I chose Bitrex and an alcohol I later found was unavailable unless I bought a railcar of the stuff. But I added Bitrex and that made my state liquor commission happy. But I got complaints from customers. If they got it on their lips they got that terrible bitter taste. If their wives kissed them they got the terrible taste. Bitrex is so bitter, there was less Bitrex in 1 gallon of my BR than would be found on a fast food french fry. That's no exaggeration. On top of those negatives from customers I hated wearing a respirator to handle it and washing myself with peroxide to deactivate it on the skin. Just the invisible airborne dust would affect my sense of taste and smell. By removing the rum there is no more need for the Bitrex. I suppose I could add rum in small quantities and use other alcohols to denature the aftershave to be able to really call it bay RUM, but I haven't looked back. Because any rum brings in all the problems with ATF game playing. I don't want to give the ATF any foot in the door whatsoever so the rum is completely gone. ATF has been known to break down doors at 3AM and shoot people for no reason whatsover. Wrong address? Whoops! And not even a "sorry!". I had a friend ask me a few weeks ago if I would make him a batch of the real stuff and I turned him down for precisely the same reason. Remember the Branch Davidians at Waco? Assuming they had full auto weapons (they didn't) it was a $200 manufacturers license tax that would have fixed it. They killed all of those people and spent millions for that operation over $200. I no longer make the "real" stuff for anyone, even myself. But as I already wrote, rum for alcohol is meaningless in the product, at least after it dries.

Thank you for that extremely thorough explanation. As I said, I was not trying to demean or slander anyone. I've heard nothing but good things from your product and hope to try it one day. I have become a huge fan of Bay Rums recently upon rediscovering my Pinaud Clubman Virgin Islands Bay Rum. My curiosity was piqued when I read no rum in a Bay Rum. Thank you so much for the time and effort to explain all that. Damn government ruins everything. I guess I'll just settle for drinking my spiced Rum and smelling of Bay Rum. Cheers!!

No problem. I agree, the go'vermin should just stay the eff out of folks way, but then what would all of the low scorers on the civil servants test do for work? Good to know they'll be in charge of your health care isn't it? :-) I did have a gent contact me and ask me what would cause my BR to spoil. Understand, I keep the alcohol level of my BR just above the point where it would spoil so as not to cause alcohol burn, or at least to minimize it. The only thing I could attribute it to was someone diluting it. I'll let you piece what happened together. Thought bubble... "Clear bottle, I drink this much I need to bring the level up". OK I did it for you. I offered to replace the bottle but the gent told me he had to fix a problem first. Someone drank non-drinkable alcohol. Hey! It said bay RUM, did it not!? I'd much rather use real rum to prevent that sort of thing. But then we could get this
