Hey kids! I just wanted to post pictures of two Ever Ready razors I just got. For sure I know everyone has one of each. I acquired an Ever Ready 1914 with the case and two blade holders. The razor box and holders do have some scratches but by in general it's in pretty good shape. One of the blade holders seemed to be really rusty but it turned out pretty good after using Scrubbing Bubbles. In the end I think it came out quite nice. The set ran me $9.99 so I believe this was a great buy. I also landed an Ever Ready 1924 The box is in good shape the razor is in near mint condition. The set also came with a blade holder and one Ever Ready razor blade (lol). It didn't require a lot of cleaning but I did it anyway. The 1924 ran me $15 so I think for the condition it is in I did pretty good. Now I just have to try them both. If these two razors are more mild then a Gem Micromatic open comb then I am in luck, I did extremely well using the OCMM.

Very nick pickups. The shovelhead(1924) is a bit more aggressive than the 1914 little lather catcher. I enjoy both, but I still prefer the Damaskeene a bit more. The 1914 is a close third behind a standard 1912 and followed by the beast, OCMM.

Nice razors and good prices!
They both give great shaves. But I'm going to let you discover them for yourself. Let us know how you like them.

Very nice pickups! The 1914 is called the Touring Set and sold for $1 in the mid 20's. That's around $13 in today's dollars, so you did very well. Let us know what your impressions are after trying them out.

Papabear, did you finally get the carbon steel blades? I bet you are going to love them they are quite smooth! I tried the cabon blades in my HFT; and I wasn't that happy with them. They pulled and tugged like a 4 year old on Santa's lap. I will try them again in the Damaskeene after my run with the MM Clog-Pruf. If I find the carbons are not for me, the will be PIFFED away as well as a large assortment of DE blades for anyone who would want them.

HoosierTrooper, could you imagine the 1914 being made today and selling for $13? Just the price of a modern cart costs more then that. I wouldn't mind paying 4 times that if they were being made new today.
Papabear, that's really too bad the carbon blades are not working for you. I do see what you mean that they tend to tug a bit but they should cut. Keep trying them out they do cut they may not be razor sharp but I feel that they are mild. This blade works great on the MMOC for me I hope it does for you.

Very nice, the ER Touring Deluxe is one of my most prized razors, the most elegant razor per dollar around in my opinion.

razorx, thanks! It seems like the 1914 gets a lot of good praises.
Loading the blade into the 1924 is rather clumsy. Sometimes the blade doesn't seat right so when I load it I make sure to push the blade into the blade stops. Then tilt the front of the razor towards the floor so that the blade stays in the blade stops, I then shut the top plate. Taking out the blade usually makes the blade ricochet flying out.
Hopefully, the 1924 is as good as the 1914!

I feel uncomfortable with the fit. It isn't intended for modern wafer blades. It is because of the cut outs on modern blades. The razor has the side retention clips right there. Darn blades are slip sliding away....... The ER TenTwoFour razor (the early 1910 version of the 24? ). also has a poor fit for blades.

And I love the '24. Go figure.
Never had a problem loading the blade. I just hold the handle vertical, slip the blade in and pivot the cover closed. Maybe I'm magical, but it's no big deal.

Same here,I choke up on the handle so the cover doesn't slap against it,perhaps an added benefit is that it means theres less leverage and enhanced control,,,,
