I have been looking for one of these for quite some time and I finally snagged one on eBay.
Here is a picture from the ad on eBay, I was really looking forward to receiving this set
When I picked up the parcel from the post office, I did not have a good feeling...
The seller taped up the top of the box, but failed to use any tape on the bottom of the box
This is how I received it
It probably would of been ok if the seller put all the pieces of the razor in its case, but for whatever reason, all the pieces were put in the box separately.
Yep, you guessed it....not all the pieces made it
Here is the case
Inside the case with the what I received
As you can see, the handle is missing
I emailed the seller and explained what happened, I didnt ask for anything as I thought we would have a conversation as what we should do about this.
I was a bit surprised when I received an email with a very nice apology, an offer for a 20% discount on any future purchases, a complete refund for this purchase and "please keep the razor"
I dont think I could ask for anything better than that.
So although I am very disappointed at the loss of the handle, I suppose I wouldnt turn this down if someone were to give it to me.
Here are some pictures
This is really cool, a dated package of 3 blades
I managed to remove a blade without removing the string...looks like the original ASR blades
Here is a blade compared to a modern Gem
Also included was a Micromatic blade and box
I noticed that on one of my Ever Ready lather catchers the handle was pretty well identical to the missing one, so it will share its handle with this razor. Hopefully I can find another handle in my travels
Here is what it looks like with an original blade loaded
And here is a modern Gem loaded...it doesnt fit very well. Since it is quite a bit thinner it is slightly loose in the holder.
The blade sits a lot lower on the guard, the corners of the blade are exposed and it looks kind of scarey for shaving with.
Very interesting razor, too bad that the handle went missing after being in the set for 100 years +
I havent been able to find too much info on this model, if anyone has any information to share I would appreciate it
Thanks for looking
Kevin
