After my disappointment with the open comb version I purchased, I came across this beauty which had a full stack of new blades in it. I took out each blade, cleaned and disinfected each one. I disassembled the whole razor, cleaned and lubed the parts with Hornady One Shot. I will be giving this beauty a try tonight. BTW, it has Mr. James H. Bell engraved on the side. Well Mr. Bell, your razor lives on.

Very nice! Wouldn't it be cool to find out who he was.

Very nice! Wouldn't it be cool to find out who he was. Yes it would. I tried shaving with last night, but I didn't have much luck with the old blades. Either I had the wrong angle or the blades are not as sharp as today's brands. I will give it another go tonight with PTFE coated blade. Again the razor could be much mor agressive than I anticipated.

The I2 Hydro-Magic came out in 1955 and required the cutouts in the blades, and stainless steel wasn't being used yet by the blade makers, so those blades you have are pre-1955 carbon steel blades that have undoubtedly lost their edge over the decades.

I think HT has something there about the carbon steel. Can still load up with a new blade. Nice to see a Schick 'rebuild'!
