Hello gentlemen, a while back Tom kindly gave me a Schick G1 razor that I happen to like so much that I wanted another injector. I have since become a bit of a "Schickhead! " I have recently acquired a beautiful Schick Golden 500. The razor is in near mint condition! The case is in good condition. Included with the case is the instruction manual and the original Schick Custom cartridge which I believe has 18 of the original blades enclosed. The razor had an original blade installed when I first received it the blade is incredibly sharp. I have recently tried the Golden 500 and it turned out to be a smooth mild razor. I can't really tell the shave performance difference between the G1 and the Golden 500. All in all it's a beautiful effective razor.

I do have two questions about the Golden 500. Being that I am very new to Schick injectors and have very little knowledge about them I don't know if my questions are of no real concern. I have noticed that when I open the Golden 500 by pulling the lever up it has a notable slant effect. I have searched for other pictures online to see if this is common. What I have found are that a few of these razors have a slight slant when opened but most don't. My particular razor has a very notable slant when opened though when it closes it is not slanted and there is no blade alignment issue. Should I be concerned about this slant issue or is this common with Hydro Magic models? Also, when I insert the Schick injector cartridge to load a blade the baseplate (bottom part) pulls a bit forward (as seen in the picture) is this also common with these razors? The blade does load but I don't know if the baseplate should pull forward a bit when loading a blade.

Beautiful razor. I have a hydro magic. I will check and see what it looks like when open.

Hi Joe, Now that I see the pics---nothing to worry about. When open the Hydros are wobbly bobbly.and when the key is inserted they all do what you described. Thus the blade enters and doesn't get scratched up by the blade retainers. You got a beauty. Enjoy!

wchnu, thank you I appreciate your input. The razor is in immaculate condition after using it I forgot to clean up the 500 for the photos. coolbus18, the Golden 500 is much larger in size then I expected. I mistakenly cut myself with the original blade that came loaded with it those blades are super sharp. birdlives, I think Tom secretly works for Schick! My tiny collection so far (the Schick G1 was given to me courtesy of Tom).

Dumz, my Golden gal also slants to one side when undo her strap. No worries, just make sure the blade is centered on the stops when you close her up. Enjoy your 500, she is one of most favored dance partners.

birdlives, maybe Tom likes to get people addicted to anything wet shaving I got quite a dent on my credit cards at this point! Rich, thank you for the information about the slanting issue. With the information provided by CB and yourself about the slanting effect I don't worry about it anymore. Yes, you are right, I learned to make sure and check if the blade is centered on the stops. Oh, for anyone who has never seen this I thought I would put a scan of the Golden 500's manual.
