Hi... well I tried it with a Gem PTFE SE blade and it held fine... I may well give this a go sometime soon. My only word of caution would be that, given these are not far off a hundred years old, some of the internal mechanisms may be a little, how shall I put it, degraded, which would impact the stability of the blade. But these are sturdy things. Anyway I picture shows more than I can say so... [photo deleted] The small clip at the top of the head (bottom in the picture above) secures the blade and is controlled by a small push button underneath the head which gives it a degree of tension. The blade was a little narrower than an original I think but when I had positioned it centrally it was solid (I checked with a few vigorous wrist flicks). So, yes, in short I believe a Pall Mall will take a modern SE blade. Let me know if you take this any further Jon We are on this one Jon! I also checked it out myself this morning and had myself a great shave with it. It is a good day in razor land for me. PJGH calls is it a all Wilko-a-go-go at the mo I have to agree.

I don't know how I missed this thread. Very nice razors Broadsword. The early Wilkinsons are not that easy to come across and yours makes a great thread starter! The travel Valet kit - yowser!. Very nice. I have always wanted to pick up a L'essor - have you been able to run through a shave with it? Now that Heljestrand set. Very nice shape. Terrific set. A really nice pile there Broadsword. Thnx for posting. Re the L'Essor. I checked it out yesterday and there is I believe one useable blade. I am going to send it away to get it honed and checked before I subject my face to it. I will also check to see if either of my shave ready Heljestrand blades fit the head. Cheers...

Got myself a L'Essor yesterday, a gift from a old friend in the Foreign Legion. First shave with the wedge blade was ok (used Naniwa Chosera 1K - 3K - 5K - 10K - Suehiro Gokumyo 20K for this. Shave was ok.
But with a GEM blade this thing really rocks!
