Thanks to a cool loan from PJGH, I now have a Personna injector to play with and I shaved with it this morning. I had only seen photos of the Personna before and had imagined it to be very similar to the PAL adhustable, but I was mistaken! Superficially they look almost identical but the Personna is smaller, lighter and has different head shape and geometry which is much closer to the Schicks. Unlike the PAL, the angle was very easy to find, though not Schick intuitive, and the shave was very mild indeed. It shaves rather like my Schick J but not as efficiently or comfortably, and I came away with a very good result but one that my Schick J, L or M would have done so much better. The PAL adjustable is erratic and fierce, whereas this Personna is just too timid. They both look beautiful, but one's mad and the other one can't cook ASR got it exactly right the first time with the Injectomatic which is a superb shaver and a worthy rival to the Schicks. If only they had kept to this head geometry and innovated with handle design, we would have a great range of ASR injectors now. Instead they experimented with the head designs and we ended up with this pretty nonsense which looks so good but shaves so unsatisfactorily. It's a triumph of form over content.

... a pretty girl who can't hold a conversation, eh? Yes...and the rest! Seeing as this is actually your Personna I used, Paul, I'd be very interested to know what you think of the shaves from it. For me, although I've got a decent shave from it, this Personna simply isn't as good as any of the Schicks I've used in terms of efficiency or comfort. If only ASR had put the Injectomatic head on the Personna handle, that could have been one of the all time greats!

Recall that I have struggled with injectors ...
Also, place the following razors as the backdrop to my injector experience: Schick J, Schick Dial, PAL Injectomatic & this Personna.
First go with them all, none of them performed. I persevered ...
I've got a good tune out of the PAL, which when I play it on its edge next to the Schicks and line up the head, it has a dramatically different angle for the handle, but one which I clicked with quite early on. Likewise, the PAL seemed intuitive and I think you've got it, but I also think you might have missed the subtle sweet spot - I say that because, again, at first I got some success but thought it very mild. Fine for a day's growth, too many passes for a couple. Since then, I've actually really clicked with it and found its sweet spot - it is capable. I think I suggested holding it gently between finger and thumb just under the curve and using its own balance just rest your palm on the handle. That seems to be bang on.
Back to those other injectors - the Dial, I can get a great shave with; the J, so-so; since then I've got a G and that takes you by the hand and shows you how. Great razor.
Faced with my collection now, the G, the PAL Injectomatic and this Personna are the three I'd pick for either a daily or a two day growth shave.
