Well, will you look at that! Good catch, Sir!
So, as to its raison d'être, well, we're talking Eastern Bloc but from a pre-WW2 respected manufacturer. When the wall came down, Mother Russia took stock of all she'd acquired, the blueprints, the patents and so on ... perhaps no SE blade manufacturing was acquired in the split?
It would be great to find some advertising information from the period. I wonder if there was any/much? I wonder that their market was?
The shave is interesting, isn't it? Nothing like a DE - the blade exposure is pure SE.

So, that's where the "G71" designation came from that the chap I mentioned called it. So, what colour handle is yours? Off white? Sort of toothpaste white?

Toothpaste is a good descriptor. I can't say that this was the original color, as parts of the handle have significantly yellowed (specifically along the edges where handle side meets handle side). I don't know why. It will end up being a sickly yellow all over at some point I guess. There appears to be some (scary?) chemical process underway .

Why start a new thread when I can resurrect an old one. Through a happy coincidence (a discussion on another forum coinciding with one popping up on Etsy) the latest addition to my collection is one of these quirky razors. As can be seen above it came in the original box, and is showing very little if any visible wear. Holding it in my hand, it rather reminds me of a Gem Featherweight. It utilizes the same sort of construction - sheet brass stampings, chrome plating, rivets holding it together on a plastic handle. Mine seems to have a bit more blade exposure than Paul's specimen that started this thread. I had some Personna Med Prep blades lying around. The cap is opened and closed by a tab on the back, vaguely reminiscent of a Gem Pushbutton. I wasn't overly impressed with the quality of construction. The cap doesn't line up perfectly square with the base plate, and the opening/closing mechanism feels somewhat flimsy and sloppy. It takes a fair amount of pressure to lock it into the closed position, and I was worried that it might break, but so far so good. How does it shave? It feels more like an SE than a DE (a Good Thing, at least as far as members of this forum are concerned), although if the blade was a single edge I'd probably toss it. More details in today's SOTD. --Bob

Good catch, Bob! It is a curious one, they do shave like an SE, don't they? I've moved mine on, largely because I don't keep the blades ...

When I was DE shaving I bought blades in bulk, and I still have a fairly large stock. It's nice to have a use for them.

So then. How do we classify this single edge double decker using DE blades? You can buy it brand new. They call it a Shavernator! It is made here in Canada using 3D printing technology. The designers claim it is NOT a safety razor. Looking at the blade exposure I am inclined to agree with them.

Just for the record, "Medizintechnik" means "medical engineering". So you gentlemen got yourselves some super rare scrotum scrapers...

Well, we could classify it everything but good looking With the case it reminds me of that radar speed pistols used by the police, without....I can't say. In any case it's amazing to see how 3D printing technology is helpful in supporting new ideas. RobinK
