Good afternoon Gentlemen, I was wondering which technique do you employ when shaving the upper lip/moustache area with a "big headed" SE, like the Gem 1912. I noticed that in the instructions of some newer GEMs, like the Feather Weight and the Micromatic, it is suggested to shave from the corners of the mouth towards the centre, but in the 1912's, unless I am mistaken, there's no mention of it.
EDIT: I found out that in the GEM G3's instuctions there is the same advice....still, I find it a bit tricky, but maybe I only need some more practice.

Full shave ...
FIRST PASS
I start at the bottom of one sideburn and shave directly down to my jawline, down my cheeks until I get to the mouth and chin area. I move on to do the same on my neck from the jawline, straight down. This leaves a lather doughnut beard.
From the middle of my top lip, I do straight out horizonally and then follow my top lip itself down to the corners of my mouth to get those little annoying bristles.
From the corner of my mouth, straight down, leaving a sort of lather soul patch on my chin. Again from the middle of my bottom lip, straight down, rolling around my chin.
SECOND PASS
From my jawline just under my ears, horizonally towards the middle with puffed up cheeks. Again, leaving a lather doughnut beard. Neck, straight up finishing with a J turn so that the razor is horizontal in the middle of my neck just under my chin.
From the corner of my mouth straight up with puffed up top lip up to the middle. Slightly diagonal shave from nostril with my mouth pulled down and top lip pulled taut, just to get those stragglers.
Finally, middle straight out sideways under my bottom lip and chin, with a return stroke on my chin to overlap.
HINTS
Inspect after each pass and you'll understand whether you've been effective.
Yes, experiment and find a way ... it's a big head, but it does fit under your nose and can be angled in all sorts of directions to get every hair.

Try wiggling the tip of your nose with a free finger to stretch the nostril areas and philtrum a la straights.
And try with the razor head perpendicular to the lip so the blade edge is vertical then shave left to right and right to left using the corner to shave the nostril area. Saw a guy in a French Schick advert do this... ...but I'm currently growing a moustache. Problem, what problem?

Try wiggling the tip of your nose with a free finger to stretch the nostril areas and philtrum a la straights. Yep....I use my free hand to move my nose around and use the same angles of attack as when using a Str8.... I definitely don't do the left to right or ear to nose stroke except on my XTG pass....But the WTG pass is pretty much N-S except directly under my nose where I pull nose up with free hand and do like a J-hook where nose meets face and straight South from there...or coming South from side of nose, and while pulling nose slightly in opposite direction, just follow the line of where nose meets face with the corner of the razor...with the 1914 and 1924 this is a one pass thing and around nose is BBS. With my Damaskeene because of the Ears on the ends of the comb, it takes several passes... With my 1924 the angle of the razor is greater; almost half way between the 1912 and a DE; so I just do a normal N-S under nose, while pulling up on tip of nose with my free hand...

There are a few ways to skin a cat.
The later Gem instructions though - from corners of mouth in. I have never tried that. Will give it a spin.
And.... 'Philtrum'. It is true. I do learn something new every day!
