My KK has arrived ... It came with two baseplates which are ever so slightly different: one has some patent numbers on the comb, the other plain. The very subtle difference is, one holds an injector blade quite firmly between the side guides, the other does not and the blade slips back. Neither fit onto the Christy without forcing. The baseplate with the patent numbers is just a smidge tighter and so, the injector blade can be positioned and slipped into the razor to use without a shim behind. Lucky. I guess the other baseplate could have the side guide tightened by literally a hair's width and give the same characteristics. Excellent Paul! You have two nice models with different handles. I am glad that you mentioned the differences between both base plates. My Kutter does NOT have serial numbers on the base plate. Is it possible that all base plates with serial numbers secure an injector blade good enough? Could it be that maybe just your specific Kutter is just a smidgen tighter? We should log your finding because this minor difference is a huge difference! As for your other Kutter, the plastic strip mod will alleviate the injector blade from moving back.

The difference between the two baseplates is so fine, I think it would well be a simple matter of one having been used more than the other and so the side guides worn or pushed out just that tiny fraction. Standing the non-stamped baseplate on each end and applying some pressure I've managed to get it so that the injector blade is not retained like the stamped baseplate.

There are razors that I can mod that would require altering the razor itself. I don't like to physically alter my razors in any way. In the end I just mod the blade (anyway that I can). Now you have a Kutter to test drive. IMO the Kutter Kutter shaves no differently then a Christy.

It's in line for a shave at the weekend ... yes, I don't think it will be much different to the Christy either, but handles do seem to make a huge difference for some reason. Consider the difference between a hex handled 1912 and one with a round handle ... like a 'Peerless', for example. Grin.

A close look at the red handled Keen Kutter's swirl pattern.
