I have a GEM 1912 razor that shaves great. However, the spring on the head cause it to shut, i.e., it won't stay open to put in a blade. Any suggestions on how to fix it?

I have one like that. I did not want to try and bend the spring so I just hold it open with my right thumb and use my left hand to put the blade in. If you start tweaking the spring there is a good chance of messing it up I think.

Here we go. All you need is a small screwdriver and needle nose pliers. Pliers only to tweak spring. Insert screwdriver as shown. Once inserted twist CCW lightly. The cap will pop up when released Looking at the back side now. You can see the left side spring is bent down slightly. Now to bend spring take your needle nose pliers and pinch as so. Very lightly to start then check. Repeat as needed. After bending looks much better. Now when you reinstall the cap. Make sure the small vertical spring pertrudes through the opening. Slide the first side into position. Make sure the ear is on top of the main spring. Then moving to the other side, use the screwdriver to pull out the ear slightly and push the cap into position. Tom

You know, Tom....you should start a razor repair kind of thread...You could even document how you put the Bunny razor Project together and made it happen....
I mean...this is the SE forum...That kind of thing should be documented here...For future cats who would like to try their hand at something original...I mean...you made that happen... I'm sure.........I mean.....I KNOW a ton of cats did find it interesting and I'm sure more in the future will aswell...Some will find it inspirational aswell...and maybe it will open the minds of some other creative thinkers to try their hand at a project....
And if we preuse around here...there are a few, fix it kind of things...We could dig them up and put them with your column.... Whaddiya tink?
Just sayin....
