Greeting gents,
I'm new here and new to lather catchers although I've caught the bug and I'm now obsessed!
I have a quick question. Has anyone on here made new wedges or had someone custom make wedges for them?
I've been shaving with straight razors for years and have had custom blades made for me, I don't see why any of these custom razor makers couldn't make new wedges for our lather catchers. Thoughts?

Thoughts? I have read a few other places where people buy the Chinese Unmentionables and cut them up for use in wedge razors. I have a few of the 66 Chinese I need to do that to one day. Tom

Oh my, damn auto-correct in my first post! No idea where "unmentionables" came from haha.
I meant to say unmentionable razors. I know of a few guys making custom unmentionable razors, I'm going to reach out to them and see if they'd be interested in making wedges.
O.S. was here.

No biggie as long as you now now. If you find someone to make them put me down for 7

No worries twhite! Should have read the rules before posting (guilty).
I'll ask around about the custom wedges and report back to you all!

Update:
Talking to a few blade-smiths now, don't see why these blades can't be custom made.
Are these wedge blades more or less the same size between different razors/brands? Does the degree of hollow grind matter?

Welcome to TOST. I will be watching this thread. I have a Kampfe and GEM wedge blade. They seem a lot alike. There are people with a lot more knowledge here. I hope they chime in soon.

Thank you Fuzzy! I'll be sending over one of my wedge blades to a smith that I know and he's going to make a copy. If all goes well, I don't see why he couldn't make blades for all of us (in exchange for $$$ of course). I definitely have questions though so hopefully more people can chime in. P.S. I'm the guy who asked you about the aggressiveness of these razors on your YouTube video recently

Does the degree of hollow grind matter? No. Blade sizes vary. Hollowness of the grind only matters if its a non adjustable razor because of geometry. Spine thickness is a factor as well.

Thank you sir! Seems like it's going to be hard to create a one-size-fits-all blade.
Would be great if we could make a list of razors that accommodate the same blade dimensions, if that's even possible.

Quick update for you all.
I started this project predominantly due to the fact that I had a bunch of lather catchers with relatively few wedge blades. Over the past few weeks, I've bought a few razor sets, each with a full complement of wedges in excellent condition (I've got 11 Heljestrand wedges and 5 Henckles).
I can still proceed with this project as I know a blade smith who is willing to craft, for free (I pay shipping), a wedge blade in what will probably be damascus as that's what he specializes in.
Problem is, he lives in Belgium and since I'm paying for shipping both ways, it'll cost me close to if not more than $100. So I'm still deciding whether or not I want to spend that much for a single wedge when I clearly am no longer in need of wedges...
