Sat 5th Oct RazoRock Syn. 24mm P & B Citra Royale ES Claymore V1 / Bulldog handle Schick Proline [ 1 ] Alcolado Glacial A/S Splash Have been on holiday but good to be back Home. Shaves while away have been very good as the Bathroom lighting was good and a Shaving mirror was provided. My choice of Travel Razor was the Occams V2 / plate 3 and fitted with a Proguard blade delivered smooth and comfortable Shaves, all trouble free and with great close all round finishes. Today I had a good Shave with the Claymore, and with a fresh blade it delivers a good close all round finish.I am getting such good Shaves with my AC/SE, that I may put off my scheduled Injector rotation for a couple of days.

This was a yesterday (10/4) late evening shave, but some things happened later that delayed the posting. This is a new-to-me Gem Zinn Automatic with a Schick Proline B-20, Tabac was the soap and was lathered with a Jayaruh #270 brush, the finish was Thayer's Rose Witch Hazel. There are no blade stops, so you get to choose the aggression based on how far forward or back you put the blade (like hand-loading an Enders). As this was a first-time use, I was very cautious and technique-focused (as one should always be), and after 3-passes I was rewarded with a Darn Fine Shave. Looking forward to my next shave with this beauty. As usual with me, the picture doesn't do justice to shave or the razor, but I'll post up some better pics as I continue to use this beauty. I decided to include a shot of the front so you can see where the blade loads. The top cap is on a tight spring, so you just press the top and the cap opens to accept the blade....very easy to load.

I like that handle . Do you know what thread is used in it?

I like that handle . Do you know what thread is used in it? I'm not sure -- but I'll check it later today to see if it fits my Gem Jr Bar (which I suspect it will), if that helps. I can also check it on a 1912, Kampfe Bros Star and anything else....if that helps as well. I'm really bad on thread / screw sizes, although I'm always interested in whether a handle could be used on a different razor.

9nein9 -- regarding your thread question, I did try the handle in a Gem 1912 (a squat head, but that shouldn't matter) and Kampfe Bros Star (Model 14A, if I'm remembering correctly), and the handle screwed into them perfectly. Hope that helps -- if there's something else I can do to answer your thread question, don't hesitate to let me know....if I can do it, I will.

Saturday Evening Post Shave Razor: OneBlade Hybrid Soap: Haslinger Salbei - My first use on this and I'd like it a bit slicker. I'll give it a bit more water next time. If any of you have used this particular flavor of Haslinger and have ideas, I welcome them. Brush: Simpson Wee Scot AS: The venerable Avon Spicy

Today was a nostalgic shave. Used my father's brush, which was a Surrey of the type you'd once find in any corner drug store in the United States up until probably the 1990's. The mug and soap were a NOS Surrey mug and soap I found on auction. This was not his mug but I know he had one like it. Previous to that he had an Old Spice mug and a different badger brush. Not sure whatever happened to either mug he had nor the older badger brush but he still had this brush and gave it to me. As to the history of Surrey, somewhere along the line Surrey, became Van Der Hagen who as you know now makes a similar entry level shaving set today. The VDH soaps get good praise generally. The Surrey soap had a bit of a spicy scent to me, unlike anything current from VDH. I have heard that the Surrey soaps, at least those since probably the 80's or so are not Tallow soaps. I have no idea, but know the soap lathered and worked well. So other than the razor, I used items he has used. Today he shaves with an unmentionable and canned foam, but he's always had a beard and only shaves a little on his cheeks and neck. So I can see moving away from mixing up your own lather each day for that little bit and given his age and motor skills can understand not wanting to used a traditional safety razor, but one thing he still hates is any razor with a pivot. He got used to doing his own angles and likes it that way. It was an enjoyable, nostalgic shave. I don't break out the brush too often as the knot is starting to give up hair, probably 5 or so per shave. Soap/Brush/Mug - Surrey Razor - Gem Junior Blade - Gem Stainless

Talbot Shaving | Authors Ridge Leo Frilot Tru-Stone Copper Matrix | AP Shave Co. SynBad 30mm Ever-Ready SE | Delta Echo | Gem PTFE Maol Grooming for Talbot | Authors Ridge I've been applying the Authors Ridge splash throughout the week. I immediately liked it, but I've come to appreciate it much more after a few applications. This is one of the more complex fragrances in my den, but it does require a little olfactory training. Initially, I felt like Authors Ridge was missing top notes, and as a result I thought this was a creative gag in making it "headless" (It's been done before, though). However, the more I use it, more is revealed. There is a rather dominant presence of rich earth and suggestions of oak lichen and mushroom, yet subsequent uses allow my nose to accept these base earthen elements and thus appreciate the distant muted and dry floral and crushed succulents. Then the woods become more distinct with resinous qualities approaching that of cedar with spicy and bitter highlights. The earth is also contrasted by what seems to be clean ozone to me. The soap echoes these notes, but it's even more challenging to discern the discrete notes. In fact, had I not already experimented with the splash for several days prior to using the soap, I would probably not have been able to pick out more than earth and woods. Authors Ridge is a very pleasant autumn fragrance and everything about it is quite natural, albeit dark. This is something someone who lives in the woods will likely lose track of after a couple hours of being outdoors. However, it's so well blended and complex that I propose this will speak quite differently to others. Catie's Bubbles' wonderfully gothic 322 will not soon be usurped as my all-time favorite dark fragrance, but Authors Ridge is among its court.
