Mechi's again. My research leads me to believe that they were the first to use the term "safety razor" in January 1833. (It was not the Kampfe Brothers in their 1880 patent as many believe) And yes... face lathering is superior.

I concur. I am a dedicated face-latherer. I use my old bowls and cups to hold soaps or gear.

I have a dedicated soap container where my puck lives and I lather there, and I couldn't be happier.

I don't think they had dedicated shaving soaps back then, wasn't it PEARS that first marketed their bar soap as a shaving soap? VINTAGELIFE had a YouTube video on that awhile back. I can face lather but I can bowl lather faster, besides..... I WANT MY BUTTERCREAM!

To those that love bowl lathering...they don't condemn it. They're just saying, 1: it is better for traveling, because no bowl.
And 2: It will probably be preferred by most who try it, most of the time.
But it is fun to change up and bowl lather sometimes....for me at least...I do it once at least every 3 or 4 years.. 😂😎
Man, it looks like these Mechi cats had a shave stick....They don't call it that, but...sounds like they discribe a shave stick to me...

Mechi's Catalogue of Cutlery, published these Tips on shaving ca.1800, in England: I think Mechi's were a bit later than 1800. The 1830s? Where can I see the full catalogue? If their address is given as No. 4 Leadenhall Street, the catalogue is no earlier than 1830. Edit: Just saw that Mechi's was founded in 1827.

I have decided to give this method a try with some Williams. Tomorrow, I will use a new puck of Williams and I plan to make a video of the whole experiment.

Apparently you survived,... all good? All is well. I used the no dish/bowl/mug method today, but I forgot to press the record button. Nevertheless, I did finish the video. I wet the face with my brush and smeared a new Williams puck over my face. Then, I built my lather. It worked very well. Here is the video.

A blast from the past. I will have to use this in a video soon. Also notice the term is cake not puck.

Nevertheless, I used a new one and rubbed in on my wet face. It lathered great, and I didn't have to mess with a bowl, dish, or mug. The point is that when traveling, you don't need to carry along your mug/bowl/ dish. Just throw the "cake" (maybe in a baggy) in your dopp bag.
