Brian, I've read that the BurmaShave is pretty good stuff, I'm just holding off using it until I find another one.

Greetings I mainly use soaps and my favourite is Wilkinson Sword Stick at Number 1. Lea Stick and Tabac at joint number two. Cella at number three. None of these are expensive, I like to grate the sticks into a suitable sized container. I find with creams that T.O.B.S. are hard to beat in terms of performance and value, they are made by Creightons at Peterborough the company that makes the excellent value Real Shaving Company cream. It is widely believed (and probably true) that Creightons make many if not most of the famous name British shaving creams, but not the hard soaps. Regards Dick I do the same with my sticks. You have access to another stick that we require UK contacts in order to get... Boots. Pretty fantastic stuff IMO. I asked my friend Jack to send me some so I have enough for a time. You have some very nice shave products available to you. Or is the grass just greener on the other side of the fence? That could be it. We do have small artisan type manufacturers who make some pretty good soaps, most of whom are under my radar. Of course we have the vintage too, and they are really good, but those are the bones of the past. Tom, vintage BurmaShave is good. Not as good as the Barbershop Pro, but good. Greetings I think you hit the nail on the head there Brian, many if not most of us think the grass is greener on the other side and want to use a product that has to be imported from the opposite side of the planet at a hugely inflated and unrealistic cost. When we get it we are sometimes disappointed and think, "I could have bought something just as good in my local town for a quarter of the price" This is just human nature. On the British shaving forums just about everybody (including myself) comments on how great Palmolive shaving sticks perform; but the reality is that not many British shavers regularly use it even though they like it and all have a stick, they want something more 'exotic' imported from Italy or the USA. It's a nonsense really and 90% of us are guilty. I doubt there is a single 'modern' country in the world that does not manufacture a decent shaving soap and/or cream, the problem is we all want to use each others! By the way if any body your side of the Atlantic wants anything that is only available here I am quite happy to buy whatever it is and post it to you, thus helping to further this 'nonsense'. Regards Dick.

Just a few notes here. I have not tried the T&H Rose, but since a few people mentioned it I'll have to give it a shot. I did have a half block of Klar Kabinet at one time but sold it. It was good stuff--probably should have kept it.
Sorry also that I sold my 1kg block of P160 about a year ago, as people here could use it. I sold it after realizing that I prefer Cella. One thing I still have is about five tubes of red-cap Erasmic. I really like it but haven't used it lately. Also, about the Erasmic, I miss the old metal toothpaste-like tube that it used to come in.
Norfolk Dick--do you think that Creightons at Peterborough make T&H creams as well? Just wondered.
I do like soaps, but I face lather due to having a 1920s sink and it's so much easier with creams. I do use a soap every now and then, though. One nice thing though about having a vintage bathroom is that when I'm using an old razor it really seems to fit right in.

Can't believe that I have not replied to this thread. Unlike most of you guys I am more of a cream man that soap man.
Here goes, my favorite creams. C&E Sweet Almond Oil - I know is is out of production but I managed to hoard some and have like 3 tubs and 3 tubes left. T&H 1805, Trafalgar TOBS Eton College, St James Collection, Mr. Taylor, Coconut, Shaving Shop Tabac Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet
And my favorite soaps. Tabac The one and only MWF Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet
I know the cream list is long but I just love each and everyone of those creams with the C&E Sweet Almond Oil the only one that I will be sad to run out of.

I've put off buying the Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet due to the cost. What does it smell like?
BTW, Drugstore.com has a few TOBS creams as buy-1-get-1 50% off. I think I've bought 6-8 tubs in the past few weeks--would have to count them to be sure. If you get two tubs, you can always buy one or more Schick injector blade packs to get up to the free shipping at $25.

I have only been shaving for 45 years and have not had a chance to try out all the soaps available yet. I thinks I must be about half way through them all. If I can stay alive for another 50 or so years to try out the rest I may be able to make a decision. So far I would have to say Mitchells Wool Fat or Ogalalla Bay Rum and Lemongrass

I would like to add that I like the lower cost soaps and creams mentioned. I like trying out the inexpensive items that are sold around the world. I did pick up some Pre de Provence soap recently and really loved how it works. I also picked up a puck of RL Safari, but I haven't tried it yet.

Well the Bear will chime in. It is hard to pick a favorite, but here goes:
Soap: Derby (stick) followed by La Toja Cream: GFT Rose and Sandalwood Hybrid (Croap): Cella and Valobra.
Lately I have been adding Cremo to make a superlather.

Since everyone keeps talking about Mitchell's Wool Fat, I would like to encourage future buyers to try Scottish Fine Soaps' shaving soap instead. It is easier to lather (not much of an achievement, as MWF is one of the worst soaps I have ever tried in that department), the lather performs significantly better, and the scent is quite similar but more refined. With most retailers, SFS is actually a bit cheaper, too. If you live near Falkirk in Scotland, you can pick it up from their factory outlet for next to nothing, by the way. Don't miss the unscented and unstamped refills for 20p, either. As for the English brands, you really may want to try St James of London (not to be confused with the TOBS cream). Also produced by Creightons, significantly cheaper, and in my opinion better performance. You will get a nice glass jar with metal lid as a bonus. As for Blenheim Bouquet, it is excellent, but compared to its competitors (Castle Forbes and Xpec) quite expensive (the glass jar with silver lid certainly plays a role in that as well). The scent is not for the weak, either, and little wonder it is, given its history.
