Thanks to Fuzzy, I've been able to spend the past week with a Gem Feather Weight razor and see how I like it. Tried it with different soaps/cream to see if that made a difference. It didn't. So, I like it with some reservations.
This razor gives a very mild shave. As I experimented with different angles/pressure (I know I know-no pressure) and various techniques, the shave seemed to remain the same. I find this razor to give a comfortable and effective shave. Thanks to the razor light weight and low profile, it was easy to use and I was able to get into tight spots (read under nose) with no problem.
I did not care much for the handle though. Although the grip is good and effective, the squarish handle was just not what I look for.
So, this razor is a good one. But not what I'm looking for at this time.
Next up, a Gem Damaskeene starting tomorrow.

That pretty much matches my opinion of the FW, and really all of the GEM razors starting with the Micromatic Flying Wing all the way through the Contours. I use them occasionally just for the heck of it, but the earlier ones work so much better.

Dittos. The FW is mild. It's what I started shaving with and it's a great noob razor. I use one now and then just for kicks but it's not at the front of the cabinet.

Thanks for the review. Like Tom pointed out it's a lot like the later Gem models and being that I own most of them I don't see the point. Occasionally I will bump into a black handle version which looks very nice.
