Gentlemen, first off this is my first post as I just joined TOST tonight. I am a member at TSN and Straight Razor Place under the same username. It is good to be here! Now to the point of the post, my 1912 looks like a typical Gem with the curved too cap and shorter combs vs the older style such as the Demaskeene. This one, however, has no writing at all on the back on the head. It only says pat 1912 underneath the head where the handle screws on. The inside of the razor head has the typical stamping. Any clues on what age this one is and why it is nameless on the back? Thanks, Jeremy- Attachments:

Yo Jeremy, welcome aboard, glad you could make the scene in time to share the Holidays with us...Congrats on the score, that a beauty there. Looks like you just picked it up new of the Drug Store shelf... I leave it to some of our more knowledgeable cats to give you the right answers.....But just for fun, to place a guess...I'm thinking its one of those '20's travel versions with the shorter backs....and it probably shaves great... Some of our heavier dudes should be along shortly and lay out the real deal on this beauty...I'm curious if I'm close...See you around...

I think Lloyd is correct. I asked the same question about 9 months ago. I sent the one I had up to SD. It shaves very well. I'll go find the thread that explains what it is and get back here.

OK, I'm computer illiterate so I don't know how to do the link thing but I can tell you where it is on our site. In the GEM Razor forum I(Alan)started a thread entitled "What is it?" The answer is there.
Hope that helps

I have one as well with a different handle. The frame in these are a bit smaller so they would fit in one of the smaller cases, I don't think there is enough room to fit the full size word GEM in that small space. I love this particular 1912, the handle is very comfortable and it has the slightly rounded top plate like the Damaskeenes. And by the way, welcome Jeremy!

Thanks for the warm welcome and for the information guys, that explains it. This razor did come in the smaller compact metal travel style case.
I picked up an older dammy from the bay last night to compare with this one.

First, welcome to the forum CB! Merry Christmas!
Alan, I'm thinking it's the short head GEM '24? Different handle though. The one you sent me has finer fluting, similar to HTs. Of course handles can be changed and did the factory fit only one handle to them? Maybe not.
CB, is it a mild razor? The one Alan sent to me is quite mild; much milder than any other 1912 I've ever used. Other than the short head (the one Alan sent) it looks like a '24 which is a 1912 variant.

Thanks Brian, it is good to be here. Great to see you here too.
This particular razor is not mild, in comparison the 1914 is smoother and less aggressive to me. I thought the 1924 was the shovelhead?

The Shovelhead would be the EverReady '24, not the GEM '24. It's a bit confusing at first.

The 1920s turned out some splendid razors and cases. They really were rather decadent with generous use of quality metals and plating. This version gem is quite a nice shave tool. HoosierTrooper pegged that right quick!
WELCOME TO THE SHARP SIDE!!!!!!
And Merry Christmas seems warranted too!

I've been seeing a lot of them on the net lately. I think they come close to the Goldilocks. It is definitely a razor to try.
