Is this fabulous razor a GEM Open Comb Micromatic (OCMM) or a Micromatic Open Comb (MMOC)? Which term do you use and why?
And why are the words GEM and PAL normally written in upper case letters?

Around here we've generally referred to them as OCMM and CPMM. I'm not sure if that's what GEM had in mind, we've just done it through habit. Hoosier Trooper may know. However, it's not that simple. What if it's a 17 tooth CP? Then it is called a CPM17, a 12 tooth CP is a CPM12. Wait....it gets better. What if it's an OC without the two nubs on the base plate? Is it then called an OCMNN (NN=no nubs)? This can get almost as bad as the Injectors!!
Anyway, all kidding aside I don't know. I'm thinking that when GEM introduced the OC there was no other razor in the MM line. So GEM referred to the OC as the GEM MicroMatic. When the CP came along it probably was just referred to as the GEM Clogpruf. I'm not sure if they ever tried to bunch up the CP, OC, and the Flying Wing into one MICROMATIC family. HT will know.
As far as I can guess they capitalize the word GEM and PAL just to add significance and show that it is a product and not just a noun.
I'm probably all wet here; the above is just an un-educated guess.

I usually capitalize GEM and PAL because that's how ASR did it on most of the products they made under those brand names. I don't think it matters if one says OCMM or MMOC, most of us know that means the open comb Micromatic, I think I've used both, just depends on how I happen to type it.

Well, I took a look at my OCMM, MMCP, and Bullet Tip and as usual I was dead wrong. They have MICROMATIC written inside, so GEM did intend them as part of the MICROMATIC family. Oh well.

Thanks to a brilliant PIF from matloffm, I received a Clog-pruf in the post this morning and inside the head it reads "GEM MICROMATIC Clog-pruf" so being pedantic, MMCP would be the best abbreviation. But, as I frequently point out to other pedants, the purpose of language is communication. So as long as the terms clearly differentiate between the 3 micromatics and are recognisable by others, I guess it doesn't matter what the terns actually are. Alan: I like your terms OCMM, MMCP and Bullet Tip cos they're less likely to be confused.

Hi all,
Just to prove that I am not dead or anything like that since I was last on TOST I have the answer to the question which abbreviation is correct. I my opinion the only abbreviation for any kind of Micromatic is "JUNK
As most of you know I am about the only guy on TOST who hates these pieces of crap. Only mistake that GEM made when it came to razors. Nough said.

"Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain"! Well I was getting worried. Hadn't heard from the Cast Iron Marsupial in a while. Wasn't sure if he had gone to the big hibernation hole in the sky or if he was just really busy at his Recycling Center. (He melts down Micromatics into skillets). Anyway, very glad to hear from you Bryce. Happy New Year to you my friend!

I typically write it out as OCMM for the simple reason that when you try to pronounce it you get something like Occam which of course makes me think of Occam's Razor. MMOC gives me M-moc which is too close to MMMbop, a horrible teeny-bopper song of the late 90s. So that's my reasoning for OCMM > MMOC. It probably has little significance to anyone else, but hey, you asked why and that's mine.

It is nice to hear from ya Possum. Nice to see you still haven't succumbed to the GEMOCMMNN yet. : ) The order of the letters seems to work either way - kinda rare. The capital letters though have been there from the beginning, all the way up to today. (They did experiment a bit with 'Gem')It is truly one of those rare 'thats the way it is' things! Today

You should know that a thread like this would bring me out of hibernation. As for hibernating in the big den in the sky I have instructed my daughter to contact Fuzzy by email to announce my demise just so you guys can mock me and my opinion of the Micro"Junk"omatic even after I have gone to shave in heaven. I do like your idea of melting Micro"Junk"omatics and turning them into cast iron skillets. No way do I do that. I only use cast iron cookware that is made of superior raw materials. I am afraid that the aforementioned shaving implement ranks below even the most crude shaving implement created, the flint stone blade so they would not be part of any cookware I would create.
