Thanks to a lovely seller over in Illinois, a very decent GEM Contour landed this morning: Very presentable. The handle is not dirty, more scuffed. I dotted a little Autoglym Plastic Conditioner onto it and it looks a lot better now. The safety bar was a little tarnished and polished up fine, the lid appears lacquered and has some water staining. Tonight's shave is sorted ...

Very nice! Where does the Contour fit in the GEM timeline? The head looks similar to the HFT and Featherweight...

I think it fits between the "pushbuttons" and the Featherweight. There was a Contour II, which I also have, and it's back to the flip top head like the Featherweight and the original 1912s. Here's a Contour II: ... and a Featherweight: Practically the same head. The Contour is quite different.

The button opens and closes the head on the Contour then?

It does ...
Push the back and the top flips up, blade flies out ... try NOT to catch!!! Ouch!
Re-insert the blade and press the button on the front to drop the lid down.

Very nice! Where does the Contour fit in the GEM timeline? The head looks similar to the HFT and Featherweight... Greetings The Contour was GEM's penultimate offering, followed by the Contour II which was their very last razor made. The Contour is (IMHO) a very decent shaving razor, the Contour II on the other hand is super mild and it is the only GEM I struggle with to get a decent shave from, they are very different animals. The Contour is a pushbutton, opened exactly the same as the GEM Pushbutton model whereas on the Contour II the cover is opened by pressing the back of the cover with your thumb there is also more plastic used in the Contour II. My advice (for what it's worth) would be stay clear of the Contour II unless you are looking for a razor that requires three passes and endless touching up to get a decent shave. Regards Dick.
