For months now I've been having problems accessing this site and others. After posting, the window would take forever to update. I'd close the window and it would reopen on it's own to show me the update. Frustrating to say the least.
It was all hardware. I was using a dinosaur of a computer that I intended to change out this past summer, but things just kept getting in the way. Besides I HATE (!) change and it's easier to do something other, than to do what one hates doing.
To make this short, I have a new computer. I had Dell make one for me, and since they wouldn't put what I wanted in it for RAM, when I got it I put more into it. This thing is an absolute screamer. Access to the forum is now solved and all the problems have disappeared.
The wife and I were trying to remember how old the other computer was. I think it was close to 12 years old. It underwent 1 minor upgrade of components 1 1/2 years ago, and the upgrade HD I cannibalized out of it will go into a docking station and I'll use it on this computer as data back up. That's all I can use out of it. Whoops! Maybe the external burner, but for burning the one in the new computer is much faster. I can use it for a reader.
Hopefully I'll get 10 years out of this computer.
Edit: Oh, one other thing the new hardware fixed... I'm a mod' on a BBQ forum, and at night I do a lot of my computer work and monitor the BBQ site at the same time. When I'm done working I watch a netflix movie. Previously in full screen mode if I moved the cursor the screen would black out. Not even in HD, just normal full screen. Now I can watch HD Netflix and no problems at all. As I wrote, the old computer really was a dinosaur. It simply couldn't handle the data.
One thing I'd like to able to do is force it to use the hardline to the router for faster throughput. Instead it hooked itself up wireless and the connection is only fair.
