Can anyone shed light on the circumstances in which lather just seems to evaporate and disappear. I lathered my Roger & Gallet L'Homme puck this morning as I did yesterday (or seemingly so) and as I applied it to my bonne visage it just disappeared or at least didn't hang around for long?
Too much water? If so then it can't be evaporation, can it?
Looking forward to hearing your opinions on this one.

It does not evaporate, it dries out. Try this: Drip hot water onto puck, then take shower. Transfer excess water into lathering bowl. Flick brush dry, load. Add a few drops of water to puck, reload brush. Repeat. Once fully loaded, transfer brush with proto lather to lathering bowl. Keep whipping. Technically, your lather is too dry.
With this particular product, striking a solid balance between dryness and wetness will be a challenge. I tried this soap three years ago, and unless the company has performed a small miracle, I would consider the soap mediocre at best.

Yup. To dry. I face lather. I just dip the tip of the brush into water and work on puck until I get a paste on the brush. Then on to face. Same thing there. Just add a touch of water until all is right in the world.

With my stinking hard water, I wish I could get that much lather. The only way I can is shoot whip cream into the bowl.

Seems legit, Joe.
Jesting aside, baking soda can actually work as a water softener. Alternatively, get a Brita (or other) water filter and a $5 electric water kettle and see if that helps. Or get a product that works with hard water, too. Castle Forbes and Esbjerg come to mind, but also Creightons's St James and Groomed from what I can tell.

All in good fun Be.
If I take my time and balance the amount of water I use when lathering my soap it does not dry out. I live in Chicago and in my area I only have hard water from the tap.
A few years ago I purposely purchased some distilled water to test if it had any effect on lathering soap. I figured it would be easier to lather soap and it was. I did notice that (particularly Williams) the lather dried out far less and it seemed to yield a bit more of a creamy consistency.

That looks great! Was more water your solution or?? Just added water a little slower... I was in a rush the day of the disappearing lather, so I think I added quite a lot of water and didn't "whip" it up enough. All good now. Panic over! My water is reasonably hard and I find I am better off loading my brushes quite heavily and adding water bit by bit.

I have been conteplating a water filter and heater. Our small master bath keeps me from expanding my shaving area. However, a mug warmer(http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/product/mr-coffee-mug-warmer/1017912933?device=c&network=g&matchtype=&mcid=PS_googlepla_nonbrand_kitchenelectrics_&gclid=CPuqz736wbwCFW3xOgodOWMAEw) with some filtered water might be in order.
