I picked this up recently while on vacation from Autostropia and thought I'd add to the Gem taxonomy we are building here. The case is battered but has held together. The de Luxe is an open comb from the 1911-12 period: The only identifying markings on the razor are on the back of the head: There are no markings on the inside, unlike later models, and the blade bed is essentially flat: A stropper attachment is stowed in the hollow handle: Here is a shot of the undercarriage: I don't yet own an open comb Damaskeene, but here is the de Luxe along side the Damaskeene I do own: And shots of the two in profile: I just got it cleaned up today and haven't had a chance to shave with it. Perhaps this evening but definitely some time this week.

Excellent!! Thats one set that I have been trying to find for a while. There was one on eBay a month or so ago but it was more $ than I wanted to spend.
Thanks for posting, great pics!!

Really nice! I did not know that those existed. The de Luxe model seems to have solved one of the issues that I have with the 1912 model; i.e., the short handle.

Absolutely wonderful pick up!! You sure do own an open comb now.
I love the way the frame has no markings 'under the hood'. Refreshing not to see a bunch of clutter.
Thnx for posting. Great find. Enjoy your maiden voyage with this one.

Very fly! Thank you for photographing in such detail. Let us know how it shaves ... and if you want a second opinion, I'd be very happy to try it out and offer mine

Reading through Waits, I find this nomenclature re-used around 1924: the New De Luxe. ... and I think I've just bagged one. Not as special as this, not by a long stretch, but interesting to see the name picked up again later.

Amazing! I have wanted a Gem de Luxe for ages but have never found one. Incredible razor! They seem to be very rare and I bet they fetch a pretty penny.

I'm finally getting around to the "I finally got around to shaving with it" update.
I popped a new cs Treet in it for last Sunday's shave. I went really well, although I think the longer angle messed with my angle finding at first. I was happy with the results. The second and third shaves during the week were progressively better and I've ended up considering it my best shaving Gem.
Now it's one of those situation where the "I love you" wee little person inside of me is suggesting a replate. That will never happen, but...
