Has this been discussed here before and I just missed it? I only now discovered this and I'm starting to look around the website. Anyone here already have an opinion on it? If not, then let's check it out as the leader in SE experience and talk about what we think. www.bornsharp.com

That's basically a modern Rolls Razor isn't it? I'd love to try it out and see what degree of sharpness the mechanised system can sustain, and also just what the blade and head geometry is like. I guess this is the first new SE since the 70s (Huntlee pending).

I love the idea ... but it is a LOT of money to buy into.

I'm curious to see what the cost is. I'm waiting to hear back from someone.
I agree that it does seem reminiscent of the Rolls Razor.
The Mongoose SE will beat the Huntlee to market most assuredly.

Here's a picture I borrowed from a buddy who is testing it. I believe this is version 5 and from what it sounds like this could be the production version. It is a two-piece head that can fit on most DE handles. It utilizes the Feather AC & Kai Captain style blades like the Cobra does.

Wow! That does sound like an exciting developement. Is there a link for a Mongoose website? And are we approaching an SE renaissance? With the upsurgence of wetshaving, perhaps we'll start seeing some more radical designs. The move from cartridges to DE and SE at the start of the 21st century mirrors the move from straights to safeties at the start of the 20th and as it gains momentum who knows what will happen? This Born Sharp may be expensive but if it's as good as claimed perhaps there will be cheaper rivals...

I have a couple of concerns right off the hop.
The first is this sharpening device. Through the years entrepreneurs of all stripes entered the great blade sharpener gadget free for all. There were bazillions invented and tried and none really ended up doing the job. There were electric and wind up and gyro spinning and glass hones and glass marbles and magnetic and..... I personally have collected a bunch. Not a one of them, the Rolls contraption included, are worth a damn at giving a sharp edge. This unit? What would make it special?
Second, for five hundred bucks I would want a different handle. Smooth handles are very slippery and uncomfortable. Particularly with a razor with weight - and this one looks heavy. Drop it on the floor once and then try and stick it in the sharpener. And if ya bugger the blade..... A hundred bucks for a replacement??
I would certainly not jump on this razor at a quarter of the price. I would rather have the satisfaction of saying 'I told you so' once the complaints start to roll in.
I'd be pretty surprised if this thing ever really makes it to anymore than a handful of sink sides.
But make me eat my words with a successful run and I will humbly sigh and say congrats.
