Looks like jewellers rouge. What are its abrasive qualities? It should be a mild abrasive.

But your right, it does look like jeweller's rouge and if it is abrasive then that means that the recent innovation of pasting the case strop was Rolls intention all along!

Yes, if it turns out as you say, Rolls already had this sort of thing covered. What a phenomenally undervalued vintage razor!

According to the interwebs, the red colour is indeed Iron(III) (aka ferric) oxide.
