Paul (PJGH) lent me his newly acquired 1920s Wilkinson SE to enjoy and also to see if we could get any life out of the proprietary wedge blades that came with it. I think this model is the revised 1925 edition of the Pall Mall. It's adjustable for aggression as well as head angle, which is a great feature. It has the same rolling Archimedes screw guard as the later Empire, but the blades are consideranly larger and heavier. The steel is predictably excellent and takes a great edge. One of the blades was chipped but this honed out nicely and I took both blades through a full progression before finishing on 0.3u lapping film over paper. This is rapidly becoming my finisher of choice for these vintage wedge blades, and it works great with Rolls blades too. Unlike the Empire, the Pall Mall is not self-stropping but it comes with a stropping attachment which fits the handle so the blade had a few laps on canvas and horsehide too. I set it to max aggression, angled the head at the same pitch as the GEMs and shaved. Absolutely superb! The extra weight of that big heavy blade combined with the rolling guard makes for an extremely efficient and comfortable shave which has a lot of momentum behind it. Coupled with the amazing design, this razor is a real beauty and a pleasure to use.

Beauty! Absolutely great to hear. I so enjoyed that Le Grelot, I knew I had to have something like ... and I do like Wilkinson Sword. I'd love to try one of the early 00's 'Roller Shaver' - it bet they're superb! Can I have it back now you've done all the hard work? No, take your time ... enjoy a few more shaves. I've got loads of metal to work through up here, including that W19 model which I will use as my Friday night treat with a third run GEM Blue Star.

Okay, I am going to blame both you Marcus and Paul for striking an interest in me for a Wilkinson. I now look for one daily that doesn't cost me an arm and a leg. So help me I will find one ... and I thought I had gotten over RAD!
