I recently acquired a Damaskeen set with blade bank and NOS blades. I noticed that they are thicker than current single edge blades. I was thinking of shaving with one to see what difference, if any, it would make to the shave. In general, I don't find the Damaskeen as good a shaver as the ER 1912 even though it is hard to see the difference in the heads. I find the Damaskeen a rougher and less efficient shaver than the 1912 and I wondered if the difference in blades is a factor. I was also going to try a Feather with a rear blade cover from a used ASR SS blade.
Anybody else have issues with the Damaskeen or is my experience a rarity?

I too own a few NOS Damaskeene blades that came with my OC Damaskeene. I have three unopened and one that is opened and yes they are thicker then modern SE blades. I have not shaved with the Damaskeene blades since I would rather just collect old vintage blades rather then use them.
In general I find the Damaskeene (even more so the OC version) to be smoother then the standard 1912 models. At least in my experience a mediocre blade like the CVS pharmacy blades makes my Dami's and 1912's uncomfortable. When I pair the 1912's and the Dami's with a Gem Blue Star or Treet blade they are wonderful and more so my Damaskeene razors. Of course razor blades are the epitome of ymmv.

I find the Damaskeene is my favorite. I love the 1912,and usually shave with one, but the Dammy is awesome.
