I can't imagine the Japanese made them just to accomodate ancient American Valet razors. So what are they used for in Japan?

Feather made their own version of the valet post WWII (maybe earlier, I've not yet gotten a full grasp of the history) and into the 1960s (I think). Anyway, I just got my hands on one and I'm planning on posting pictures in the near future. I believe I've got one of the older models, but I'm still researching. Anyway, as to why they are still making the blades, I don't know. I'm sure glad they do.

There was another thread recently which mentioned these, and it's unclear whether it's licensed from Valet or just a blatant clone. Apparently Feather was founded by German ex-POWs who settled in Japan after WW1. As well as the Stainless blades from Connaught Shaving, Feather also make blued carbon steel SE blades true to the original Valet design. These blades are stroppable so if they're sharp enough then the original Valet system can be maintained - I've heard recent claims for 30 shaves per blade with stropping. Hurray for Feather

Those blued carbon steel Feather Seikan blades arrived yesterday. They're not quite as sharp or smooth as the NOS Valet blades but still far far superior to any of the alternatives, and gave an amazingly good BBS shave in the VC3. Go get 'em! Sent from my GT-I8190N using Tapatalk
